Do Cal Grants require a seperate app? Or do I just fill out the FAFSA and submit my GPA Verification?

I believe they do require at something at least in terms of applying. Every year students post about some deadline they miss!

FAFSA + GPA verification = CalGrant application. The FAFSA and GPA verification must be submitted on or before March 2nd. When submitting your FAFSA, be sure at least one of the colleges is a California college.
A week or two after submitting your FAFSA w/a California college, you should be able to create a WebGrants account to track your CalGrant application <a href=“CSAC - Student Landing Home”>CSAC - Student Landing Home; . If you do not list a California college on the FAFSA, it will not trigger a WebGrants account and will not be an application for CalGrant.

The March 2nd deadline is an inflexible deadline. If your FAFSA w/a California college and/or GPA verification is not submitted (and in the case of the GPA verification, received) by March 2nd, you will not receive a CalGrant regardless of your income/assets.
