Well, it’s not official until we get our California Aid Report (CAR), so hopefully it updates again.

For CAL GRANT A, but it says, “Score BELOW Cut-Off” - I have a 4.0 GPA. ***?

NOT AWARDED! I didn’t qualify for FAFSA this year unfortunately since we barely made the cut-off and my parents stopped working last summer. I was depending on this to help me with school…now I have nothing… :(

Also, it only lists my first school on the FAFSA. How can I change that?

I get pending for renewal o.O That’s weird…

^me too argothiusz. when i go to award details for 10-11 it doesn’t show anything…

Score below cutoff isn’t the same as GPA.

When I called Cal Grants, this is what a guy on the phone told me. There’s a total point system, and based on your status, you’re awarded points.

For example, how much you make, what generation college student you are, parents’ level of education, dependency and GPA all give you points. The one worth the most points was not GPA though. I believe it was income (and yes, it’s based on parents’ income)

Man, if this is true, that’s ridiculous. There’s no way of authentically knowing past income from what’s listed on just a piece of paper. Right now, my parents are jobless, we live in a small home, and I make the most - $8.25 an hour. But last year’s FAFSA lists us in the 70k for income! I worked my butt off in college in addition to work and I am still not qualified?

However, my parents income is listed slightly different(several thousand dollars more) than the one on the FAFSA.

Will this get updated because I am REALLY depending on this?

I am assuming my cutoff was this income…

I’m not a financial aid officer. I was in the same position as you and I can tell you what I did.

I petitioned to have a change of income, turned in income statements, wrote a letter explaining why my income changed and my school approved me and re-evaluated my Pell Grant to the full amount.

With CalGrants it’s different. You’re depending on this, but so are other students who didn’t even get the 70k income bracket last year and might not even have jobs.

You can call, and ask them to explain your points and why they’re below the cutoff. Also ask if there’s anything you can do to appeal and have your points reevaluated based on new information.

^Thanks essenar. I guess this is my only hope. Can I do this now? The site is saying that no changes can be made at this time?

Hey guys, the requirements section is now posted in ‘cal grant main;’ however, when I fill out the form and click the last box, it won’t let me click submit. Have any of you guys tried this yet? Do you know what I’m doing wrong?

Bump…

Site is down for maintnance til next week rypken posted that a few page back that no change can be made during the time! It will be back up next week, hth!

Ah, I see…thanks.

Just so you guys know, it looks like the site is up now. I submitted the high school verification form thing that they requested, but I’m still not able to change my school (every time I select a year from the drop down box it just refreshes the page rather than going to a new one).

NEW Cal Grant A SCORE BELOW CUTOFF

NEW Cal Grant B SCORE BELOW CUTOFF

I don’t understand this. I thought everyone was entitled to a Cal Grant? My EFC is 0. I understand if I don’t qualify for the “competitive” award, but I thought everyone got an “entitlement” award? This sux.

^

Yeah, I’ve never heard of that…sorry…):

It looks like the “Cutoff Score” is only for competitive awards. So where’s my entitlement award?

on holdddd

I just filled out the form that I needed to get the hold taken off my awards. I still need to do the school change thing… I havent submitted my SIR yet…

^ same, I don’t know if I’m going to go to UCSD next year or do another year at CC so I don’t want to tell them what school im going to just yet/

@ rypken - yeah it’s back up, thanks so much for the info!!

and maybe we were not able to change school because they gotta verify that thing we just submit them the highschool thingie, which takes a week to verify?!

“This Entitlement Transfer record is on-hold awaiting the return of the (G6) Certification form. Once the information is processed and if determined eligible your award will be released for payment by Commission staff and you will be allowed to make the school change and/or leave of absence.”
