cal grant?

so i just got my efan and it saids im eligible for the blue and gold thing
i read up on it and i was supposed to apply for cal grant
and all these years i thought cal grant was a type of gift aid given out of the information based on fafsa
that means for 3 years i missed out on free aid and took loans instead to cover for my costs
so my question is...
is cal grant a big part of the financial aid package for those in financial need?
i personally think im already getting a lot of gift aid (something like 15k)
does it take the place of other types of aid or is it a grant separate on its own?
i know i already missed the deadline but is there anyway i can apply for it for winter or spring quarter? thx

i was told that cal grants are part of your fafsa…

i just filled out my fafsa and calgrants was part of it

It really depends on a lot of factors, namely whether you’re a transfer student, a resident and your GPA.

Answers these questions and I might be able to help you further.

I like to look at it this way.

Federal Government=FAFSA
California Government= Cal Grant

First you do your FAFSA. Then you turn in your “GPA Verification Form”, which takes like 3 min literally…or UCLA will do it for you if you ask them. Once you turn it in, the CA government will look at it and will look at the FAFSA for comparision, that’s why many people believe that calgrant is part of FAFSA.
