So do you all know that the Cal Grant program is no more. Maybe we've discussed this and I missed it, but for those who are wondering how to fund their education without one, I emailed FA and this is what went down:

When my ePAL was configured, a cal grant was included for $7,126 (out of a total aid of $15457). But I didn't receive a Cal Grant (mine was apparently competitive) and the program is pretty much shut down, so will I receive other grants or more money in my Scholarship Recognition Award to make up the difference?

I only ask because people with my same stats, i.e. independent students with EFC = 0, had no cal grants calculated in their awards and one person I know received $12,000 for his Scholarship Recognition Award (I'm receiving $2981).

Yes, you are correct. The amount that the cal grant decreases by will be compensated by your scholarship recognition award.

So I know this definitely will work out for anyone who was also getting a scholarship recognition award, but if you weren't, make sure to get a hold of FA by tomorrow if you want to know before the SIR deadline.

Apparently the cal grant cut is a proposal, it has yet to be finalized? I got a scholarship recognition award too! so this means the scholarship should cover our costs?

i have no scholorship award and am completely relying on cal grants to help pay for college. if i dont get any aid i dont know if i’ll be able to attend?

^
I get a significant amount, I thought the entering class (and beyond) were only going to be affected ('13). I did know that the Cal Grant was only given to you for a maximum of four years…:/

^no, I still only have the ePAL with the Cal Grant award. It sort of sucks not having a finalized eFAN yet. Though the response from FA was reassuring, I still worry about not getting enough aid. I’m commuting, so living costs won’t be a problem, but I need extra money for car expenses (it will be alot of driving, even just 2 days a week) and day care for one tiny persistent little girl if child care grants don’t go through.

i spoke with fin aid about a two weeks ago, they said it would be finalized before the SIR deadline, which is about 3 days away. I’m still expecting more money from them since I don’t know if I have time for work, and my parents can’t seem to get any. Hopefully our scholarships pay for everything, here’s to hopin’!

the california student aid commission sent me a letter stating I got my full grant, so if you guys haven’t gotten a letter and your preliminary award letter showed a cal grant award you should contact the student aid commission or your future schools fin. aid office!

i guess im in trouble. on the cal grant website im still ‘pending certification form’.

i got a letter on 4/28 telling me to fill that out online. i did. and the letter said i have to do this by 5/28 or my application will be cancelled. its 5/29 now and im still ‘pending certification form’. i emailed them about this, they said they recieved my form (it was done online), it just wasnt processed yet. i dont understand why its taking so long…
