Cal Housing: Dorms v. Off-Campus

So, I've read a lot from UCLA transfers about how worthwhile it is to live on-campus, meeting new people, awesome dorms, etc.

But how many transfers from Berkeley typically dorm? Maybe it's just me, but most of the transfers I know/have read about live off-campus during their first semesters. Also, my dad transferred to UCB (in the 80s), and said that looking back on it, few upperclassmen lived on-campus.

So transfers, what are you doing for housing this fall? And for those of you already there, what do you recommend?

I’m hoping to get a mini-suite in Unit 1 or Unit 2!

I’m living off campus but I have a dog so I didn’t have much of a choice. It’s way cheaper than paying for dorming but if you don’t know anyone there, you might feel a bit secluded if you were to live by yourself (and pay a lot more than if you just rent a room from someone who already has a place). Closer to campus = more expensive too.
