Channing Bodwitch for me!

Anybody wanting a Channing Bowditch Double Apartment? I was offered it, but I didnt know that you have to sign a 12 month lease! I want Wada now!! Anyone up to trade with me?

karabear1: When your friends appealed did they have any extenuating circumstances or did they just say they didn’t like their accommodations?

My assignment:

Location

Unit 2

Room Type RH Std Triple
Term Residence Hall 08-09 Academic Year
Effective Date Aug 24 2008-May 22 2009
Deadline of Acceptance Jun 29 2008
Total contract Cost (Plus $350 if Premium Meal Plan Selected) 10999.00

I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this but I thought I’d ask:

Would I be able to get away with accepting and then canceling later if I find something better?

I’ve met some people who simply requested an appeal, some explained that they wanted to live with other transfer students, and others appeal after they did not get an offer at all.

In fact, all of my suitemates (besides me) got into Wada by requesting a transfer. It’s very common.

My boyfriend got into Freeborn last year and got a transfer after one week, so it’s definitely possible to change housing after the semester begins.

so basically u accept the housing offer and pay w/e extra u have to?
wonder how people are able to transfer housing… they decided to live off campus i guess?

Should I then hold off on accepting my contract until I hear back from her?

RMKing84,

I don’t think it matters. She can still change your housing after you’ve already accepted. Just make sure you accept your contract before the deadline just in case.

Guardiangel,

I’m not sure how the financial aid works when you transfer housing since I had 0 efc. In my boyfriend’s case, they switched his package from on-campus to off-campus since he transferred into Wada. In the end, we ended up having to pay the same amount even though he started off the semester in Freeborn.

i have 0 finan aid too too… well foothill is really good but the 16k sure does hurt…
but no way i m walking 20 minutes a day killing myself over that 4k of savings

i’m sorry Guardiangel, i just can’t help but giggle each time i read your complaints about walking 20 mins, i imagine this completely bald guy with a belly popping out of his t-shirt, carrying his books to class while breathing heavily. LOL

On a lighter note, how are you suppose to take long walks on the beach with your girl?
Be a man. LOL

Hey ektaylor, in regards to the i-house application, what did you submit as far as a “transcript showing class status”? I am interested in applying for 2008-2009, but won’t have an unofficial transcript from Cal until Fall semester starts. Did you use your unofficial transcript from your CCC showing 60+ units? Ta.

karabear1: Thank you so much for all of your guidance. I’ve sent off an email to the rep. Hopefully I’ll get a favorable response.

As for CK, I thought they mentioned something about free shuttles to campus from the dorms?

I hope she doesn’t get annoyed by a flood of e-mails now. Oh well, I can’t help but offer when I good “insider” information.

Lol. Yeah, all this complaining about distance, etc. and all is pretty ridiculous.

Remember back in November we would’ve done ANYTHING to get into CAL, even if it meant living in Clark Kerr or what not. Where’d that mentality go? Just because we got in doesn’t mean we’re entitled to anything. Haha.

^ Seriously man. WTH is that all about? I’m living in Albany which is about a 45 min bus ride and I haven’t complained.

Kids today and their demands for instant gratification. /shakes fist

one of the worst things of CKC is probably the construction and the dust…
can u imagine u dont have class on friday and wanna sleep in and u hear the jack hammers hammering away at 9am…
WEEEEEEEEE free alarm clock anyone?

hey edward04, hows the rent in Albany? i was thinking of living there, since its one of the “more safe” “better” areas to live near berkeley..

Wow quit qq’ing about a 10-20 minute walk to campus… at least you got a double, i got a triple on what seems to be a single gender floor

wow disengage… who said i got a double… i got a standard triple…

thats the map… see CKC?

bel0ved,

I’m getting married before the fall semester starts so we were able to get a 1 bedroom in West Village, Albany. It’s all married housing, or “partner” if you will (you know how Berkeley do). Come to think of it, I guess technically it is considered “married housing” now what with gay marriage being legal in CA and all. (not sure on the details of that so if it applies to anyone here and you’re wondering, call family housing ftw)

Anyway, our place is brand new, opening July 30th, and it’s $1195 a month with all utilities (electric, water, gas, trash, internet, cable, etc) included except for phone. There is a place there now they use as an office during the open house phase. Once the new apartments fully open they’re turning that office into a study area. It has a lot of internet connections, desk space, bathroom and what not in case you need to get out of the house for some quiet study time.

And yes, it definitely has a safer feel to it than Berkeley. Lots of little crumb crunchers running around in the playgrounds too. Pretty friendly place.

Here is a flyer for the new apartments: http://www.housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/West_Village_flyer.pdf

aww, congrats Edward! wow, thats not bad at all for a brand new home with all paid utilities considering some of the prices for run down apartments in berkeley!
