Cal Housing

Thanks bel0ved, it was actually a large factor in the decision to attend Cal. :)

I knew a 40 something year old guy at my CC who went to UCSB as a computer engineering major. He said he actually did have an 18 year old nerdy Asian kid as his roommate and the kid was scared ****less of him. lol

^nerdy and Asian i can deal with as long as his mom brings us dumplings now and then.

God, that is just ****ing great.

Word itchy. A little yakimandu ftw.

I read through this thread again and lol’d at the epic whining by Guardiangel. O_o

Guardian, let me help you out a bit. Bring a bike. I doubt you can coast back and forth from campus to your housing downhill both ways which means you might have to utilize the muscles on your thigh known as the “quadriceps.” But don’t worry, they should firm up pretty quick and you’ll be g2g.

i can dig guardians frustration. it would be a ****ty walk on a rainy day. how annoying is it to just catch a shuttle i wonder?

i don’t mean to whine about the distance but i really can’t accept clark kerr due to medical reasons.
biking would be fine but iono where to park when i reach campus… gotta get all that sorted out…
we have to take the AC transit which comes every 30 - 35 mins, very inconsistent timings and what not… not to mention very crowded busses…
i have allergies and asthma… the dust from the construction will probably kill me b4 the academic year ends… and its GG for me…
i m not like most of u buff kids out there that can probably track for 90 minutes without working a sweat… so when i worry about the distance… i do it for good reasons… i don’t wanna be puffing on the inhaler every time i get to class…

That’s cool Guardian. The dust argument is valid. I have allergies and asthma as well and take allegra, advair, and albuterol (they love the letter “a” it seems). I still exercise on a regular basis which definitely helps my condition. Hopefully the air in Berkeley is better than where you are at now. It is for me. Good luck!

There’s a billion places to park your bike on campus, just remember to lock it up. Maybe even take a wheel off or something, lol. During my CalSo, I saw one too many bikes whose chains and wheels have been stolen even though the bike was locked up.

Beloved,

A Double in Wada is 8518 a year. I already accepted the offer b/c it’s the cheapest form of housing available.

It’s cheaper than a triple in any of the dorms, including the biggest meal plan you can get. With the “Platinum” meal plan, its about 10,700.

But yeah, the difference b/w Wada and a double in a mini-suite? The price. I honestly don’t know. they sound the same to me.

I think Wada is an actual apartment. It has a kitchen. A mini-suite has two rooms that share a bathroom.

anybody else wish that they would give separate tours specifically of the dorms? for those of us who would like to see what we are actually paying for, so we can compare to the craigslist appts…

You’ll definitely get an appeal if you explain these things to housing.

i verified my situation long ago but they still fed me nice old clark kerr…
well i received an e-mail today saying i would be put back at foothill

"@remmert: that’s my situation exactly. i got a WA ___-2 and now i only have a RH - unit 2 - dbl. i haven’t clicked continue yet.. that will probably solve the issue though.

but seriously, why would they give more info, then less info, then more info??"

I called them and they said “Unit 2 apt” meant Wada.

I know, it’s pretty weird what they did…

:S

Did you try e-mailing Christen Craft directly and explaining exactly which housing you want and why? In my experience, she is way more accommodating than anyone else in housing. At the very least, they might be able to put you on a waiting list.

Well i got an offer at ihouse-- just sent in my deposit today. soo excited.

@HLS

Same here, I’m mailing everything in tomorrow (although that seems kind of pointless since I will be in Berkeley tomo - thurs).

Reply from Christen:

Ryan,

If you accept your offer you could email to be on a waiting list for a
transfer to a different type of space, but the chances of getting a
transfer are low. All of our upper division spaces were offered out
before your lottery number came up, which is how you got the offer that
you did. If you do decide to accept and try for a transfer, please
email the request to reshall@berkeley.edu - I reply to the messages
from that account too, and it is easier to keep the requests all in one
place. Thank you,

Cal Housing

Not exactly an encouraging turn of events…

Unit 1 mini suite double. But I don’t know if I am in the same hall as the African American themed housing. I am not African American so being housed in the same hall as the themed program would be very interesting.
