Cal Poly Application and Transfer Supplemental Pages

Hi I’m applying to Cal Poly for fall 2014 (Business Admin) and I am getting very confused with the application. There is a transfer supplemental 1 and 2 pages where it has you list courses you have taken in various subject areas.

1) Are this section only for college courses (Ex: I took 3 years of Spanish, Pre Calc, Chem, Bio, etc in high school…do I put those in these sections?)

2) Major Related Courses 1,2,3…is that asking for all the required classes to apply to your major?? (Ex: I’m applying for business so do I put Econ/Accounting/Calc/Stat in these spaces.

Also, is area A3 required? I’m taking a philosophy class (ethics) but that doesn’t count. Do I absolutely need to take a critical thinking type course? (For business majors it says its recommended, not required. I’m taking public speaking for my oral communication which is recommended.)

Pretty much every section I am confused on. The application doesn’t even ask you for a title of the courses.

I was at UCSB my first 2 years and I have gone onto assist and my Econ/Stat/Accounting/Calc classes transfer and I’m taking Business Law right now to finish the required courses. I have primarily just been looking at the business pre reqs and I for sure meet those I’m just super lost trying to convert my GE’s from UC to CSU.

**Also, how Important is the self-reported grade part? I’m trying to fill it out as best as I can and am not inflating my grades or anything like that… but in the end aren’t just your transcripts what really matters??

***One last thing, I applied to Cal Poly in 2011 and am trying to retrieve my Campus ID…I know it’s not necessary to state but was just wondering why they ask for it and if I would even have one (I was accepted if that makes a difference)

Sorry for all these questions, just frustrated over how vague a lot of this application is. I will talk with a counselor at my CC soon.

I’ll try to answer these question as well as I can, but calling by phone to a college is the most reliable way.

1) The section is for courses that give you college credit. (both high school AP/IB and college transfer credit)

2) Yes you would put business related credits here. Cal poly will convert those classes to credit in the equivalent cal poly courses.

Area A3 is a GE requirement, so it is required for your degree.

For your transfer classes, if you are unsure if they will transfer, list it on the application anyway. You might be surprised what GE areas you can get credit for.

For the self-reported grade report. Fill it out to the best of your ability. Don’t worry about it too much, the transcript is what matters.

The cal poly campus ID (EMPID#) is not the same as an application number. I’m assuming that since you never attended cal poly for your first two years you wouldn’t have received an student/campus ID. Either way, unfortunately previous admittance won’t help your chances.

^thank you. I called Cal Poly a couple days ago and they were helpful. I’ll just fill it out to the best of my ability like you said!
