Ok so I was accepted to Cal Poly for Early Decision last week for Business Administration.

The GPA we entered on the application, that was A-G right? Were we supposed to enter our A-G GPA that included freshman through junior or JUST sophomore and junior? Every other CSU app asked for soph-junior, but was Cal Poly different?

In that spot on the app I entered my A-G GPA only counting my sophomore and junior classes which came out to be a 3.72. If I include my freshman year and don’t add anymore honors points(since the cap is at 8 and I got all 8 points during sophomore and junior year), my GPA would be at 3.65.

All my grades were entered correctly, so I don’t know if they recalculated??? I don’t know if I’m just being paranoid, but the fact that it’s “conditional” admission makes me nervous.

Also, on the portal, there’s a to-do list. On it it says “Partial High School Transcript” and “High School Transcript”. When do we send either of these? Thanks.

Cal Poly asks for freshman grades, and 8th grade algebra if you took it. It’s different from the other CSUs. They will recalculate your GPA based on your self-reported grades for 9-11. It doesn’t matter what you entered as your GPA on your application.

You can send your mid-year transcript after your high school’s semester ends, and send your final transcript when you graduate.

Relax and don’t worry about it. Cal Poly does not rely on the GPA you reported. It calculates the GPA on its own and generally disregards what you calculated for a GPA. The whole formula is screwy and they understand that. What they are most concerned about is if the classes and grades that you self-reported are accurate and correct. You are responsible for those items being an exact match to your transcripts. So, if you reported your classes and grades correctly, you are in buddy!

You are being paranoid and there is no reason to be nervous. Everyone is accepted with a “conditional” admission. It is conditional based on a few things. (1) That your self-reported classes and grades are correct; (2) that you send in your “Partial High School Transcript” (mid-year results) and “High School Transcript” (final results) immediately upon availability. So, the moment you can get your hands on your mid-year results, send them in. Additionally, do the same with your final transcripts as soon as they are available at the end of the school year. Cal Poly may require you to have the school send them in a sealed envelope. They should have already notified you of the reporting method they prefer. If not call the school’s admissions department and they will be glad to help.

That’s great news. Everything was entered correctly. I’m so happy I got accepted; I literally got a cup of water and threw it in my face! My semester ends this Friday, so I’ll be sending my semester transcript right when I get back. So excited to represent, wearing my new Cal Poly sweater tomorrow. Thanks a bunch.

Awesome! Wear it with pride! By the way, make sure that you do not get senioritis! Do not get any grades lower than a “C” for the rest of the year. Just stay on track with your normal performance and you will seal the deal! Huge congrats! My kid is now in his second year and loves it. Mechanical Engineering.
