What are my chances for Cal Poly SLO computer science?

Calculate your MCA and review last year’s results thread.
Subject tests are not part of the formula nor are AP Exam results or IB classes other than as part of your GPA or race.

CS is the most competitive major at SLO. You are definitely qualified so as stated above, calculate your MCA score to see how you compare.

You look well qualified but, SLO is so selective, it could go either way. Be sure to apply elsewhere. UCSC has a great program and would be thrilled to have you. SDSU and UCR are also options.
good luck.

CP SLO is selective AND extra impacted because of the out-sized freshman class. I’m not trying to scare off any applicants–they will be admitting thousands of freshmen next Fall–but it was clear from the president’s remarks that there is no plan in place to increase the campus population to 22k in the next few years. That means the big 2017 freshman class will be balanced out at the expense of incoming 2018 class. At least partially.

Based on last years admissions cycle I would say your chance of being admitted to CS is zero. Your SAT is way too low to get an MCA into the range competitive for CS.

I am sorry to be harsh, but thus is the current reality of CS admissions. It’s gotten brutally competitive.

You may want consider software engineering instead of cs. You at least have a fighting chance there.

Good luck!

I for the most part agree with @choroidal, but always hesitate to “chance” because your stats are simply incomplete. As it stands, I think your GPA and test scores put you in the unlikely category and would recommend SE instead. Even that will be a tough admit, a reach as some might say. You should have a safety, a school you know certainly you will get into AND that you can afford.

Now that could all change and is a perfect example of why calculating your MCA is so important. If you live in the service area, or have a parent who didn’t finish high school, go to a Hayden Partner school, or any other of the several things that are non-academic that Cal Poly considers in their admissions process, you could very well be a good candidate for CS. Go to page 4 of the MCA post pinned at the top and get back with your number and the posters here can better assist you. Good luck.

How do you find out if your high school is a Hayden partner school? The CP counselor I spoke with said she didn’t know what I was talking about. My son’s high school counselor said the same.

I’ve never found a list. You could call Cal Poly and ask.
