SoDo, Respectfully, i must disagree. Many CSU are well regarded in a variety of areas. In fact, I believe SDSU is more “competitive” than Cal Poly and definitely has wider name recognition due to athletics.

Wow, sorry guys. With those SATS y’all probably have other choices. Would you mind posting if CA resident (county) or OOS? If you applied to other CSU and if your were accepted or rejected?

@momneeds2no - If all you’re looking at is acceptance rate, then sure, but that number alone means nothing. Take all the other statistical factors into account, and Cal Poly is by far more competitive/selective than SDSU. The only reason SDSU has a lower acceptance rate has to be the large number of party kids in Cali who apply and get rejected. The gap between Cal Poly and the 2nd best CSU is huge.

As for name recognition in athletics, that is not necessarily a good thing. Take Boise State for instance, the only reason BSU is well known is because of its status as a football power. Academically, everyone either knows nothing about it or they are aware it is incredibly mediocre. Do you think that’s a reputation a school wants to have?

Wow I have received a follow-up letter from housing after I contacted them expressing my concerns over them accepting housing requests when not all students have been notified. I sure wish admissions was as professional in the way it treats parents of applicants.
Here is the follow-up email from housing.

Hello Lisa:

I just wanted to check in and see if Admissions has answered your questions and concerns. University Housing works with Admissions in effort to ensure the majority of students have been notified of their acceptance into Cal Poly prior to opening the housing application.

Thank you,

True admission notifications have begun going out , but a large number of students are still waiting to hear. It seems very backwards and very unfair.

Hello,

My son is still waiting to hear a decision on acceptance and housing requests are already being accepted. How is that possible? I understand those who applied for early decision but what about others who simply found out already that they are accepted? How is this fair? I was told by admissions that it notifications are done randomly and that many who still have not been notified will be accepted- my question to you is how can they get housing? Will their choices be considerably more limited than those who have already been accepted and are able to move forward and apply for housing? This process is new to me, so I apologize if my questions seem off- I am just very confused as to why all students who have been accepted have not yet been notified and how can housing requests begin when not all applicants have been notified.

Regards,

**I know that in life there are reasons to wait and there are disappointments in life, but applicants are potential students and will be paying the college so they should be treated with common courtesy and respect and equally regarding timeframe of notifications.

Wow, they’re giving everybody the ax tonight, me included. They weren’t my first choice, but it would have been a nice option to consider. @Coquimom, I wanted aerospace engineering, too. Guess I’m most likely Purdue bound. All in all not a bad alternative, but I’ll miss the Calif sun.

my D got wait listed despite being #1 in her class and posting a 2220 SAT and a 780 Math II. She applied for bio-engineering. What is most frustrating is three classmates with less impressive resumes were accepted, though for other majors. We are CA residents who live just two hours from the school. What does it take to get in?

maranderson - congrats!
What major did you get into? Do you mind posting your GPA, SAT etc?

Engineering is so competitive at Cal Poly.

I don’t know, exoraguy, but it’s mind-boggling! Now I’m worried about the mid-tier UCs (that we’d kind of considered safeties!)
