Cal poly or UCB?

I’ve planned to go to Cal Poly for half a year now but I just got accepted to UC Berkeley for architecture. Where should I go??

Cal Poly! Cal Poly is LEARN BY DOING!! Is Berkeley?

i say cal poly! more of a relaxed enviornment. smaller classes. plus it focuses on undergraduate studies ANDD is the BESST for arch majors

Well I look at it this way. UCB will cost a lot more than Poly. On an unbiased level neither school is really better than the other on an educational basis. UCB does give you the name brand if you are into that. If you want to work outside of Cali then UCB is a better choice because its name is known around the country. If you want to stay in Cali then Cal Poly's name is also known so that would be a reasonable choice.

I applied to both and I decided on Cal Poly before the decisions even arrived. I work with someone who attended UCB and she was pushing me to go there. The thing is, once you visit the schools in person you usually know which one you want. I want to stay in Cali, and I really could care less about the name brand of "Berkely". Plain and simple, the UCLA's, UCB's, etc are great for graduate studies, but as undergrad schools, people tend to go there because they want the name sake of the school. They really are nothing special compared to any other good school, like Cal Poly for undergrads.

UCB:
more expensive
"name brand"
better known out of the state
you would have to deal with people from the Bay Area (personal bias =)

Cal Poly:
Less expensive
not as well known outside of state
Much nicer area (personal opinion)
"learn by doing"

UC's teach a lot of theory, while Cal Poly makes you do it. Cal Poly has better intern opportunites for students, and it is a much nicer area that doesn't pit students against eachother quite as much (less competitive).

P.S. On the subject of competitiveness at UCB, I have heard stories of students ripping pages out of books in the library so that other students could not learn the same material... Does not sound like fun to me.

thank you Sora000 forthe extensive review :)
After checking my financial aid, Berkeley gave me more grants and scholarships and loans with fewer interest than that of SLO. So after some thoughts on my motives to go to architecture, I realized that I want to stay in the design field, not necessarily become an architect, so I think I'm going to go to UCB.

Go where your heart (or your pocket book) lies =) You can't go wrong with that.

UC Berkeley is a great school for engineering and also Cal Poly. But I heard from my AVID teacher said that Cal Poly is a party school and UC Berkeley is for super smart, confident people. So if you are confident about studying all day long with the habit then UC Berkeley is right for you. I got accepted to Cal Poly for environmental engineering major, but I think I’m going to UC Irvine.

Any school is a party school if that's what you make it!

if you plan on teaching in arch, then go with CAL, but if you wanna actually become an architect, go to Poly!! They're ranked #4 in the nation plus if you go to CAL, you'll still need to go to grad school for another 3 to 3 1/2 years to get the degree you need to become licensed. you need a B.Arch or M.Arch to become licensed, and CAL's program is a B.S. degree! Also, Poly is learn by doing, which is wayyy better for someone who wants architecture!!
