I am a transfer student who applied to Cal Poly Pomona for Mechanical Engineering as my first choice and Manufacturing Engineering as my alternate choice. Unfortunately, I didn’t get accepted into their Mechanical Engineering program, but I did get accepted into my alternate choice. I really want to get admitted into there Mechanical Engineering program so my question is; If I decide to attend Cal Poly Pomona this fall, can I switch my major later on, or should I just reapply again in November 2018?
As far as I know, it’s possible to transfer into Cal Poly Pomona as a Manufacturing Engineer, then switch your major once you’re admitted. But, the process may take a while, and how difficult it will potentially be is unknown.
Read about change of major here:

A note: MechE is impacted at Pomona. This means that you’ll have to take extra steps in order to successfully change your major. Read more about it in the “Impacted Majors” section of the page linked above.
In any event, I think you should give the school a call and inquire about this. Specify that the major you plan on switching into is impacted.
Thank you!
Did you get accepted into ME elsewhere? It might be safer to go with the sure thing.
