Cal Poly Pomona: Chances for Architecture

I have been reading through some posts regarding admission into the Architecture Program at Cal Poly Pomona and they have left me with mixed feelings. I applied earlier today for the Fall 2009 Quarter with Architecture as my intended major and Graphic Design as my second choice. I have taken 4 years of Art at my high school including 2 years of Honors and AP. If anyone could offer feedback on my chances of getting into the program I would greatly appreciate it. My stats are as follows:
10-12 GPA: 2.87
SAT (Critical Reading): 600
SAT (Math): 610
SAT (Writing): 580
My dad is an Alumni from Cal Poly from the Architecture Department as well as a veteran if that has any say in the admission process.

Thanks!!

This may not be helpful.
If I remember correctly from last year when my son was applying, CP Pomona re-calculates your gpa using only year end grades of your UC a-g classes times a multiplier and adds your SAT score... (Or something like that). It's really a numbers game, so depends on yours vs. others that applied. I don't recall them using EC's or recs. Best if you contact the schools arch department and ask.

If you get waitlisted don't give up. Rumor was last year they waitlisted nearly everyone for two reasons, to see how the budget cuts fell and find out who truly wanted to attend. I know two kids waitlisted last April who were told they wouldn't hear until possibly Sept 1st. -Both received acceptance letters in late May (but neither enrolled).

Yeah, they calculate your "Eligibility Index" (800xGPA)+SATI Score. My overall score for the Eligibility Index is 3,506. I did the math for a 4.0 with a 1600 on the Critical Reading and Math Sections Combined and that equates to 4,800. I'm in the top 27%, but I'm still uneasy :/.. Guess I'll just have to wait it out.. Thanks!!

But.... That's to get into CP Pomona. I read, I think on CSMentor, if not there then on the arch department website, that the arch department then recalculates your ei favoring coursework that they feel is important to arch. like calc, physics art, & history . Also I recall you get a boost at CP if you have a paying job, a double boost if the paying job is related to your major.

Good luck....

That's be great cause I work for a Structural Engineer :D

ashmillion, I hope you live in CA. The other day i was browing Ponoma web site, and they said that architecture is an impacted major and only CA residents will be accepted. They have a lot of problems with budget cuts.

Yeah I am :) I live in Laguna Beach, the main reason for my choosing CPP is that they are only about 50 miles away from my house, I could get a dorm up there and drive on home for the weekends.

ash, Is your gpa 2.87? That might be a dealbreaker at CP.

Yeah, my overall is 3.1, but CPP only wanted my Academic 10-12. I'm hoping the 4 years of upper art class will help as well as everyone knowing my dad there. It is what it is. If I don't end up going there I have Montana State's Env Program and NYU Poly for CivEng as my back-up plan. Overall, my attitude is if I don't get accepted I'll go on a missions trip or something for a year and then re-apply next year. In the words of the Beatles "let it be". :)

Ashmillion,

did you get in? I hear they only accepted 5.8 percent of the applicants. Sounds tough this year.

i talked to a cpp representative and she said that most of the kids who got into architecture had a 4.0 but idk if thats really true.
