My son transferred into Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona Fall 2016 from College of the Canyons. He also took courses at Moorpark College, Ventura College, and Antelope Valley College. My son’s transfer GPA was a 3.83, and the cutoff was somewhere around 3.3-3.4. They took more transfers in 2016 than they normally would and the program is busting at the seams.
You don’t need to have statics out of the way to get into Cal Poly Pomona. San Luis Obispo requires it, but not Pomona. It is best you get it out of the way if you can because it will be a lot more difficult at Pomona. One thing my son has noticed is there is some bitterness among civil engineering students because they take statics, dynamics, strength of materials, and fluids from the mechanical engineering department… which is more difficult than anywhere else.
My son was nearly a straight A student coming in. However, he found that the course work at Cal Poly Pomona brutal compared to what he had at the community college level. He squeaked by with a C in dynamics and that was with study 50+ hours a week for that one class. The College of Engineering has an excellent reputation among California industry and if you complete the program with a good GPA you should not have trouble finding a job after graduation.
Anyone transferring in looking for housing get yourself on the housing list the moment you become eligible to apply. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, because three quarters of those that wanted housing did not get it.
Also, be advised that in Fall 2018 the school converts to the semester system so plan accordingly your first year if you decide to go there. Do not take any multiple part quarter courses that may be dead ends if you can complete the series before the conversion.
Getting classes is an exercise in patience and diligence. They open enrollment months before the next quarter begins. You pick your classes which you are limited to 13 units for engineering. Then after your appointment you get a second opportunity a week later that closes after two weeks. Then after the quarter ends you have another opportunity to pick again and can exceed the previous unit limitation. Complicating things, you can’t wait list courses that have labs so you may find yourself lobbying professors Washington style to get enrolled. It can be work, but my son has been successful in getting his classes with acceptable professors while staying away from the psychopaths. If you are lazy you going to end up with the crap nobody else wants. You can get priority registration ahead of everyone else for being active in the Rose Parade float club. However, you need to work and not be a spectator.
I got accepted into CPP today! I applied on October 8th. I don’t know how to edit my post, but this is what I posted before

Does anyone know if you have to update your fall16 grades? I just updated my fall16 grades on my UC applications but does CSU require us to do the same?
@teeeeeeg Check your broncosdirect. They will ask for you to send your official transcripts before the 31st of January. Contact them if it doesnt show up.
All transcripts have been received and my “To-Do List” has been updated. Status now says “Ready for Review.” I’m nervous and excited, but also really hopeful!
I didn’t keep note of the dates when status and to-do list items changed, but the list of received transcripts currently has status dates of Jan 12, so that is probably when they processed them into the system. The transcripts were e-requested from my community colleges without my action sometime in the first few days of Jan, IIRC. I applied for Computer Engineering.
@lankysequoia For the transcripts that were e-requested, are they still in the “to-do list”? For mine, it’s under the “to do list” and “item received”.
On Jan 10, I had saved a screenshot. The app status was “Needs Documents” and the transcripts were each listed in each of two tables below: Items Required with no status column, and Items Received with status “Paid Off”. Now there’s just one table: Items Received with status “Received On Time”.
