Cal Poly Pomona Fall 2022 Admissions - Class of 2026

Commuter school

They do have a bus system with access to the metro. The social life part is/was my only concern for my son as well. But their clubs and activities (and that gym!!) seem like they’d keep him busy. He also likes playing tennis so he could find people to hit with. With all the non-local freshmen not having cars I figure he’ll meet people and have a great time.

Aw that’s so much harder. My D’s friends have all tried hard not to talk about colleges too much, but I know it’s hard to keep things under wraps. She got deferred at one of her top choices while 3 of her friends were admitted, but she’s gotten a couple of other acceptances which helps a lot. Hope our kids get good news soon.

Got honor invitation last year, but have not heard decision yet, should I worry now?

Cal Poly has an Open House, which is like an admitted student day. Last two years it has been virtual but maybe this year it will be in person. It’s usually early April. My class of 2020 grad got an email about it after he got accepted (he didn’t end up going to cal poly so don’t know what it’s actually like).

Also, daughter got accepted via email yesterday
W GPA 3.56
1 AP, 8 honors
Apparel Merchandising and Management Major
EC - Dance team all four years, yearbook first two years
outside of school horseback riding and competitive dance
Lots of volunteering

@Rashmi_Kini - Thanks for the info on the accepted students day. Yes, hopefully on campus this year.

@chrisntine - it sucks that she was deferred. And while she may not believe it, if she winds up somewhere else she’ll make great friends and have awesome experiences.

@pzhang1110 - the deadline to submit isn’t until March 1. I doubt anyone will be notified until later in March.

Claremont Village is not too far away, and downtown Pomona has a bit of a revitalizing scene with some cool bars and clubs. The campus itself is very active, with no classes scheduled during “U-Hour” where they encourage club activities, and other socializing. The Greek system is small but very active (my daughter’s chapter has 98 girls). Most of the fraternities have houses. They also have two new freshman dorm towers. The on-campus gym is absolutely amazing (the BRIC). They are definitely making a concerted effort to move away from the commuter school image.

What is weekend life like?

DS attended the Honors College presentation and is now really enthusiastic. We haven’t heard from SLO yet, but DS turned to me and said, this is perfect! I may not even want to go to SLO!

We’ve got a SLO tour scheduled for 3/4. But if DS continues to feel this way, SLO may no longer matter.

I have a 2020 grad at CPP. She absolutely loves it. The honors program is a must to get priority registration. She registers a week before everyone else and never has any trouble getting any of her classes. The professors there are awesome and care about the student body. They foster success. She loves the campus and it feels like a second home. She is a biochemistry major.

I’m feeling a little rushed. I got a letter from the Veteran’s office that orientation registration opens on March 15th and the sooner we get him registered for Orientation, the sooner we can get him registered for fall classes. Are those two things really tied together?

SLO hasn’t sent out in-state acceptances yet, their honors college doesn’t even open applications until students have been accepted, so their honors college won’t announce acceptances for a while. I wish all of this stuff between the colleges happened simultaneously so we could compare apples to apples instead of best guesses with incomplete information.

Yes, my daughter registered for fall classes at her freshman orientation, but it took place in July. They have advisors there helping them learn the system and figure out what classes to register for. She wasn’t able to register for any classes any earlier than that date.

Like at any college, weekend life is what you make of it! My daughter had a blast in the dorm her freshman year, and she also joined a sorority. Freshman year she was also on the dance team (Broncettes). There are a zillion different clubs and athletic teams on campus as well.

My daughter is an AMM major as well (she’s a senior this year). She was also on Broncettes (dance team) her first year - I definitely recommend checking them out. Their tryouts are usually in April. They do sideline (pom) at soccer and volleyball games in the fall and basketball games in the spring, and put on a large showcase in the theater in May in all genres (jazz, hip hop, lyrical, tap, etc).

Status changed to Admission Review with yesterday’s date. Not sure what it was before yesterday.

Hopefully the two cal polys are racing each other to the finish line to release results.
