I am a transfer student and have been admitted into the Mechanical Engineering major at Cal Poly Pomona this fall. I was wondering if it is possible to transfer from Cal Poly Pomona to Cal Poly SLO into their M.E program (maybe after a year of coursework at pomona)? Does anyone know if this is possible? Any insight would be helpful! Thanks!

Hey... Cal Poly Pomona offers a very strong program in engineering. Why do you want to transfer out?

well its just that ive heard SLO has a slightly better program... do you happen to know what the differences are between these schools? they both utilize the "hands-on" approach which is very effective and looks good for employers, but what separates these schools besides their respective areas?

I think SLO is great for architecture major and SLO just has higher reputation... and Pomona is more into technical like engineering and also Cal Poly Pomona has a very low admission rate (which i found suprising according to US News; I saw that it was 17% or something)... I have visited Cal Poly Pomona some times and went to their freshman orientations for 2 whole days too and the campus environment is very nice, lots of trees (it makes you feel like you are in living within a good nature), somehow looks like a rural area, some administrators are very nice... but i never take class there so i don't know much about the professors... just few opinions

Cal Poly SLO: Better student body (HS gpa of 3.8), Higher ranked (#5 in West), excellent summer internships/co-ops, very low diversity (74% white)

Cal Poly Pomona: Less selective (HS gpa of 3.3), Lower ranked (#31 in West), i hear has better internships during the school year, much more diverse

SLO has a higher peer assesment score than any UC except for Berkeley in engineering. Pomona is better than a couple UC's in engineering, but I forget which ones.
