Cal Poly Pomona Vs CSULB Vs CSU Fullerton

Hello, I have been accepted to both CSULB and CPP and CSUF for civil engineering. I already know that CPP is the better one for engineering, and I already know that CSULB is pretty good at engineering, but not as good as CPP. I want to know which school is the better fit for social/dorm life/ night life and which school is more fun. I also want to know whether or not it is true that if I go to CPP, that I would for sure have better opportunities. I am leaning towards Long Beach because I am a more sociable person and enjoy going out to do things, based on my assumption that that is the more sociable school. What would you guys recommend?

Anyone???

CSUF has a very small nearly nonexistent engineering department. CSULB’s is more established and great location wise (a lot of engineering firms are in the area) Also considering its near the beach the social atmosphere is definitely there but quite frankly Pomona beats them all when it comes to engineering. While the social life at CSULB theres no reason to not have that at pomona. I’ll Pm you a link.

wow thats crazy to think about. I surely do have to make up my decisions soon.

Have you had the chance to visit both schools? Are you a transfer or freshman? Both schools are ABET accredited, which is important. Both, like you said, have good engineering programs. I personally chose CPP as an electrical engineering transfer last year for several reasons:

  1. Reputation- The strength of CPP's name holds a lot of weight-- trust me. I can't tell you how many times people have asked me which engineering program I am attending. When I tell them CPP, they marvel and complement me for getting into this highly praised school. I had been told that the perception held by industry is that CPP grads are the best prepared students after graduation, which is why recruiters flock to campus career events..
  2. Hands-on approach- This is why CPP has such a strong reputation. I wanted to attend a school that allowed me to take theoretical knowledge and put it into practice. CPP has labs associated with nearly every engineering class. Does this create extra work? Yes. Some of my labs have been more difficult and time consuming than their lecture counterparts. But, I always come away with feeling comfortable and ready to implement the knowledge. I tend to do well with the theoretical aspect of engineering, so I was looking for a school that would help me become better at bringing designs to life; CPP is doing this for me.
  3. Price- CPP and CSULB are pretty much the same, so this won't make a difference for you. This is more of a distinguishing point between CPP and the UCs. CPP offers a great return on investment (ROI). This is one of your first big business decisions as a young adult. CPP is worth every penny.
  4. Campus environment- I personally love it. I love the natural beauty that CPP is surrounded by.

An unexpected treat, which I did not expect, is how the school seems to be making a push for entrepreneurship. It has motivated me to rethink my long-term plans and challenged me to think outside the box. Now, I am in the preliminary phase of building a start-up with a friend I met there. Even if things don’t work out, it is still exciting and worth the experience.

Note: The social-life/partying aspect of college played no role in my decision. I have no interest in partying or any of that (I am very social though). For me, it was about which program would help me become the best possible engineer. CPP became a clear choice and I am happy with my decision. I must say, though, that there is always something to do or be apart of. Just put yourself out there and you’ll thrive. Networking after all is arguable the single most important aspect to launching your career. Hope this helps.

I got into CSUF for Idk what I forgot. CSULB for aerospace and I haven’t heard back from CPP for aerospace. When did you hear back and what is ur gpa/ sat?I have a 3.8 weighted, 1380/1600 sat and 4388 EL.

And for your question, CPP ALL the way

GPA weighted is 4.41. SAT is 1210/1600. I heard from CPP in December. And why do you say CPP ?

Well not doubt for engineering CPP is better. It’s also for me closer than any of the other two and goes against traffic. Social life that’s all up to you, I’m sure baby Long Beach it’s better but my focus is on the program. I hope it get in!

I’m sure social* life by the beach* is more happening. Like I said it’s all up to how you are

@thegoat123 just wondering what were your stats? And gender even though it doesn’t make a major factor!(:

GPA weighted is 4.41. SAT is 1210/1600. Male

@thegoat123 are you local to CPP

I’m about 50 minutes away. I know i would have to dorm

your high school in the local admission area to cpp

@thegoat123 your high school in the local admission area to cpp

Local admission area doesn’t factor in for impacted majors.

Congrats on getting accepted to all those schools!
CPP hands down is where you’d wanna go for engineering because of the program and the prestige of it.
But if we were to just look at social/dorm life, I would say CSULB just because of the beach location, awesome weather, and imo the dorms look nicer. Also good foods around there too!
I have been to CPP and CSUF, and CPP would be next for me because I lovvveee their campus. Even though it’s known as a commuter school, I still think the campus is so aesthetic and I think the dorms are alright, just a lil outdated. I may be biased though because I am going to CPP next year and I fell in love with the campus so quickly.
With CSUF the dorms look more dated (I always thought the lobby for one hall smelled like artichoke idk im weird). The area around CSUF also has awesome/hip food places, while I feel like CPP lags area wise.

Thanks for the insight

Anyone else would like to comment??? Please I need help.

@thegoat123 what do you need help with? Its sounds like you really want to go to CSULB for the social aspect of it. Do what makes you happy dude.
