Cal poly pomona vs SJSU

I’ve been admitted to CPP for computer science, and I was wondering how the program would stack up against SJSU’s computer science program. Which school is better for the job market, and in which school do you learn more?

CS is one of the only majors at SJSU where you’d have to place it ahead of CPP, specifically for internship and job opportinities. Virtually every big name company in Silicon Valley attends the SJSU career fairs (their career fairs rival any bigger name school because of their location). So, for that alone, I’d give SJSU the edge. CPP’s program is likely more hands-on, so from a learning stand point, CPP might have SJSU beat. Good luck!

Thanks mate! Appreciate the advice!

Agreed. It’s sad that the proximity is what gives the edge.

Cpp is a solid school and has a better vibe/campus life IMHO, but CS is what people come to sjsu for. Proximity to SV gives it a huge advantage in that field.

Thanks guys!

No question, SJSU has a very solid CS program. Their proximity to the Silicon Valley is a fact of geography and it makes it easy for local tech companies to look for interns and permanent employees there. It also gives them access to adjunct faculty that currently work at big tech firms.

But, Pomona isn’t that isolated and also has an outstanding reputation in this field. Tech firms make the trip, cover their career fairs and hire lots of their grads. It is not a one-hit-wonder - so if you change your major, they have other attractive options. The campus vibe is more collegiate… if that is your thing - you’ll spend a LOT of time on-campus and will perform better in a more comfortable environment.

I think both have their merit, Spend some time on both campuses before making your decision.

SJSU is really that good at CS eh? Huh, thanks dude!
