Cal Poly Records Highest Number of Applicants

“The university received a total of 40,904 applications, up 12.1 percent from 36,489 in 2008.”

“Of the nearly 41,000 first-time freshmen who submitted applications, 4,744 were submitted as early decision applications”

Wow, competition is going to be fierce with the large number of applicants and the cuts in enrollment. Good luck everyone.

ahh why do they have to cut back enrollment during the year that the most people apply? that’s so annoying…

yea so basically this whole cut back enrollment thing came at the worst time for us!

Tell this to your state representative. They are the ones controlling the purse strings. Do you know who yours is? If not, find out and get on their case NOW. You can make a difference.

I’d imagine this number will be even higher next year as the U.C. fee hikes go into effect, with many aspiring UC hopefuls having to GASP “settle” for a CSU school.

im thinking what spool is saying is happening right now. we have many UC hopefuls who are applying to the state schools as their safeties due to the budget crisis. with that said, those uc hopefuls tend to apply to the best state schools, usually the cal polys, as their safeties incase things go wrong with the ucs. i have a feeling that the 12.1 percent increase came mostly from those highly competitive uc hopefuls who have cal poly as their safety/low match school. most of these applicants will get admitted and deny admission to the school because they got into a better school.

Yep, and that’s pretty annoying to me and other people whose first choice is Cal Poly. >.<

I’m just glad to have applied ED before the UC tuition hike.

Look at it this way. No one who applied early decision to cal poly (unless they have no brains) is one of those people who has cal poly as a backup. So the people who applied ED aren’t going against those UC hopefuls.

So if 25% of ED people are accepted, 1186 out of 4744 will be accepted this week. Good luck!

The same occurred at Cal Poly Pomona where freshmen applications increased by 22% and transfer applications by a staggering 150%!!!

bhyurf, you do have a point. to those who applied ED, you can relax for now. those who applied regular decision have more to worry. i, myself, have to worry as well because i applied regular admission and slo is one of my target schools. :[

bhyurf; I know of two people at my school who applied early to cal poly just for the hell of it, and they got in, and they are now denying it…
Thankfully I got in, but I’d be ****ed if someone who DIDN’T want to go there applied early and took my spot.
Also, I thought early was binding… right?

^^^^^grrr.I so wanted to get in.=/

Cal Poly ED is binding. The only way to break the agreement is for medical or financial reasons. No one should be applying ED if they have no intention of going - that’s wrong on so many levels.

You think it’ll make it easier to get into classes u need with less kids?=</p>

jsturavgazn: probably. If there’s less kids the more chance you have of getting the classes you want.

Does anyone know if we’re supposed to go to all the orientation events? Like the admitted students day on April 16th, or SOAR? I know we got to WOW.

I don’t think we really need to go to any except orientation whichever day that is

i meran the orientation day, we dont need to go to the like open house thing i think
