Cal Poly Regular Decision Thread 2016-2017

I’m hopeful that people who applied early in the window (I applied October 4) will start hearing back beginning of Feb or earlier to at least give us some info because ED was eliminated. Cal Poly is the last CSU I’m waiting on for an acceptance letter. Fingers crossed!

@Aggie58, that hasn’t been how they have released decisions in the past. It has been by college and then majors within that college, not by date of application. You can look through the Fall 2016 Regular Decision Thread to get a sense of the order. I don’t know if eliminating ED will change the timing, but I would expect mid-February and if it happens sooner you can be pleasantly surprised!

Mt oldest daughter goes to Cal Poly SLO and she was admitted two years ago with ED. I wish they still had that as she was notified the week after Thanksgiving! My younger daughter has not heard from one CSU, but has heard from all the Private Colleges that she applied EA. It seems that a couple of the CSU’s are admitting those for Honors programs over the last week or so.

Daughter got admitted to first CSU. She just checked the portal. Did not receive an email. This is for Sonoma State in case anyone else applied there. Will check SLO next for the heck of it!

Good luck to all of you!!

Question: If go to UC I’ll need to take at least one year of foreign language (which is hard for me to do well in), but it appears at Cal Poly, GE’s don’t have to inculude a foreign language. Agree or disagree?

@HSSeniorBiol: I am not aware that the UC’s have a required year of foreign language for Biology majors. Most UC’s have several different options to fulfill your GE requirements. My older son is at UC Davis as an Environmental major and opted to take some Classics courses instead of a foreign language for his Humanities GE requirement.

Thank you Gumbymom. That’s nice to hear that UCD offers such choice. But at online site for UCB and UCLA, it looks as though it might actually be required (foreign language, as required GE); Biology is within College of Letters and Sciences, and GE appears to include (for UCLA):

“Foreign Language Requirement:
The foreign language requirement may be satisfied by one of the following methods: (1) completing a college-level foreign language course equivalent to level three or above at UCLA with a grade of C or Passed or better or (2) …”

But its harder (judging from their online site only) at UCB, where it states it has to be taken for a letter grade (no P/NP allowed at UCB for this, unlike the UCLA statement above) :

“For the following requirements, letter grades are required, and the P/NP option is not appropriate: Entry Level Writing, Reading & Composition, Foreign Language, …”

@HSSeniorBiol: Thank you for the information. I guess since Biology is not in the College of L&S at UC Davis, it is not a requirement for that major.

Has anyone else been accepted? I haven’t recieved an email yet but on my portal it says I have been conditionally admitted

@alohomora7: If your portal says provisionally/conditionally admitted, then you have been accepted.
Does it say Congratulations?
Usually an email will follow.
This is the first acceptance I have seen posted.
