FYI, a friend’s student heard back from CalPoly SLO on Friday, via email and confirmed on the CalPoly Portal, that her child was denied admission. Her student is from California.
@SoCalEloquence sorry to hear that about your friend’s student. Do you happen to know what major the student applied for?
@CAtransplant yes, it was Bachelor of Fine Arts/Graphic Design Concentration
.
I just tried to check my portal and there was a notice that a scam email appearing to cal poly has gone to many cal poly accounts. Has anyone seen this email?
*appearing to be from cal poly
I haven not seen the scam email itself but also see that notice on the portal. If the email is going to cal poly accounts, I’d think that is for students who are already students there and have their own cal poly email addresses though?
@tobers36 Yes, there have been reported instances of “phishing” emails sent to CalPoly SLO students & applicants. You can email the IT folks at CalPoly SLO to be sure that your email has not been compromised. They should get back to you within 24-hours.
Send your email to: servicedesk@calpoly.edu

Major: Architecture
UWGPA: 3.7
ACT: 31
MCA: 4400
Also an OOS female applicant and could not be more anxious to find out because Cal Poly is my #1. Kinda sucks that they don’t consider portfolios, letters of rec, etc…
The last email S got from Cal Poly Admissions was from November 30 and had the subject line, “Your application is due today!”
He applied on October 15.
@STEM2017 Does he have a portal logon and what does it report for Application Status?
@Banker1 Yes, he has a portal logon. His status reads, “Thank you for applying to Cal Poly. We have received your application. No determination has been made at this time.” This hasn’t changed since Oct 15.
My point was, even though he had applied, they were still encouraging him to apply. No biggie.
@STEM2017 this happened to us with several schools. We used one e-mail for college tours and SAT/ACT registration (and subsequent spam). We used another e-mail that was just for college applications and FAFSA to know communications to that address were legit and important.
Just about every school we toured send us a reminder of the application deadline long after the application was submitted. We had already received verification that our application was received on the “legit” e-mail account but the marketing reminder piece went to the college tour/ACT/SAT e-mail address. Obviously the two departments don’t share data prior to the deadline.
FWIW, we still receive some marketing pieces on the “legit” account. Some were for schools where we sent the FAFSA but hadn’t applied yet. Some from UCs trying to keep us engaged - almost as if to say, “We know you have been accepted elsewhere but don’t forget about us.”
So no one else has heard anything from Cal Poly SLO? Strange how three people on CC heard, 2 denials and one admit, and then nothing
Nada. OOS.
nothing changed oos
February will be the magic month for many schools.
My daughter applied for BFA Art & Design, concentration in Graphic Design. Portal still says “No determination”, but she did receive an email recently notifying her that she’ll be invited to submit a portfolio for review. It’s progress anyway.
@CAtransplant at least two of the three are living out of the country. Is the third as well?
