Cal Poly Regular Decision Thread 2016-2017

@kim1298 This is an excellent observation. I also just checked our high school’s Naviance (through my parent login). Last year 43 students were accepted to Cal Poly SLO from our high school (with 12 enrolling). In 2015 55 students were accepted and 22 enrolled. So far this year it shows that only 6 have been accepted, and that 0 have enrolled. Of course it may be that some students haven’t updated their Naviance info yet…but still, I agree that it may be that more acceptances are due.

Where can you see 2017 results in naviance?

Similar stats at our school but Naviance is self reported. It only shows about 50% of the applications this year compared to 2015 and 2016.

A lot of people are waiting for the UCs and probably won’t update Naviance until after they hear back from all of their schools.

@kim1298 hope you are correct and more admits to be made. Checked college data site and their admit percentage is about 50% lower as well. Thanks for the ray of hope on a Monday morning.

As everyone has mentioned, omitting 7th and 8th grade Algebra and Geometry is a killer. We probably would have done the same thing, but we toured SLO last June and attended the admissions session afterward. In the session, the admissions officer stressed the point several times to be sure to include them on the app, so it definitely does matter. It stinks for those that didn’t know.

Hoping that admissions are made today, share the info and please post anything that you get on your portal today.
Thanks

@lkg4answers oh, good point. I’ll bet a lot of this info won’t get updated until UC sends out acceptances.

@VickiSoCal I think my DS did not include Algebra 1 taken in 8th grade. How did you access his app? I want my son to check his. Thanks!

I checked the PDF that we saved when we submitted my D’s application. Referencing that PDF shows she correctly entered pre-HS semesters for both Spanish and Math.

Look on CSU mentor, you can still download your app in the apply section

@momzof3 you can go to the CSU Mentor application and click as if you are applying for Fall 2017. It will allow you to view (and print) the applications you already submitted.

I took Algebra 1 in 8th grade. I put that on my application and still got waitlisted.

Thanks @socalmom007 , I was just checking CSU Mentor to see if it was there as well. It’s a lot of clicks but found it under: Apply -> UNDERGRAD APP -> Fall 2017 -> View Application Confirmation -> “If you wish to print a copy…”

does anyone know how to check 2017 results on naviance?

Log on, click on colleges and search for SLO. When the SLO page comes up, click on “admissions” then scroll just below the calendar icon and you will see 2017, 2016, 2015

No new acceptances or rejections or waitlists today?

@luckymom22 Naviance is not at all useful for Cal Poly because their acceptances are based on Major. And what grades you need to get into Engineering and say English vary a lot. So we have lots of very useless Naviance data… kid who were rejected with top stats and kids who were accepted with relatively low ones.

I didn’t put my 8th grade course for math either. However, my friend did and got accepted for the same major as me even though I have higher stats and extracurriculars. I am taking AP stats this year does that count toward the extra 500 points in the mca score?

@kim1298: AP Stats does not count for the extra bonus points in Math.

I think it’s up to the individual high school to update the current year’s data when they choose to. There is no 2017 data posted for our school, even for schools that my D has gotten into and updated Naviance accordingly.

@curiositycat333 no change here - still “No determination has been made at this time.” Sigh.
