@dogrunner1 Yeah I am, and I think I might. Is there an end date for the decisions?
@toastiecheez i am guessing end of March. But everyone HAS to declare where they are attending university on May 1st here in USA at the latest.
End date is April 1st @toastiecheez . If you call this will probably be your answer so probably a waste of time. That being said, since you are an international student, you can not compare yourself to others on this post. You are probably from a different applicant pool so there may still be hope. Hang tight!
Just checked my son’s portal and the financial aid award has been updated. There was nothing as of yesterday, so for those waiting, you may want to check your portals.
@CAMOM888 The themes are extremely arbitrary and change every year. Just know that social/world themes are the towers: for example, there is a music tower. Redbricks are academic, so it’ll literally just say “Agriculture” or “Business.” Cerro this year is like “Gender Inclusivity” “iCommunity” and “cooking.” Those are the 3 I know. I don’t understand why there are themes at the dorms. It’s really stupid because they aren’t actually focused on at all except in the Redbricks because most people are in the same college in those dorms. However, the one way you can ensure that you are on the list for a cerro apt is there will be a box that say “check if you want a private apartment,” so just check that. Otherwise, I’d choose the “music” dorm. That is a safe bet that that will be in the towers… but you very well might be stuck in a triple in the towers. Pretty much everyone from last year who checked the 4 person dorm box got it this year, so if you want some closure, I’d say that you just click that box, and then maybe say your 1st pick is “iCommunity” (whatever that means) and 2nd choice “Music.”
@toastiecheez Nope, you aren’t the only one unfortunately. I know myself and my good friend in our Political Theory class are both eagerly awaiting a decision back from Cal Poly. They have until the end of the month to notify all applicants of an acceptance or denial, so we will continue to sweat it out until then probably. I just hope they don’t already know if someone isn’t getting accepted and have them wait until the 11th hour to hear bad news. That would just be cruel in my opinion.
@Goolia66 and @CalPolyQ I also somehow had the impression that the housing portal opened March 1st…and so I called when my incoming freshman daughter couldn’t access hers. What I found out was that yes, the portal did open March 1st…but for returning students only. It will open on April 1st for new freshmen. The priority will be date-stamped according to when the application is submitted AND initial payment is made beginning on Apr. 1st. The very nice employee also volunteered that the application will be date-stamped, but not time-stamped…so there isn’t an advantage to logging on at 12:01 a.m. on April 1st, for example.
I could have done a quick Google search and found out this information myself without calling, I realized afterwards. Oh well.
@luckymom22 that is correct Current Freshman have Priority Housing Registration that begins March 1st-8th. Then March 9th it is open to Continuing students for PCV(Poly Canyon Village). Incoming Freshman are always April 1st. That is when my daughter registered in 2015 as she is in her 2nd year at SLO.Sorry I didn’t see your post earlier or I would have clarified for you. Feel free to ask any question about Cal Poly because I feel like I finally have the ropes down after 2 years! Now if only my Incoming Freshman daughter would commit!
I called housing too, just before @luckymom22 posted and got different info. They told me March 22nd the portal opens. Confirmed this by going to the calendar:
www.housing.calpoly.edu/calendar
under March 2017 you see
Wednesday March 22 9 a.m.:
Fall 2017 freshman, transfer and international students who have accepted their offer of admission can apply for 2017-18 Housing online through the Cal Poly portal (my.calpoly.edu). Select the “Housing” tab, then the appropriate link to apply.
They also gave me the info that it is not time stamped, only date stamped. She also said the cost is fully refundable so no matter what it is important to apply on that day to get first come first serve choice.
@luckymom22 @Goolia66 Just saw the same information! They also have all the info on Learning communities if anyone wants it Here is what it says: "Updated March 6, 2017
The 2017-18 freshman housing application opens 9 a.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2017 to students who have accepted the offer of admission. Once the housing application has opened, it is available one to two business days after a student accepts their offer of admission. Students will receive an email reminder."

@eyemgh Hi there- thanks in advance. D is looking to possibly change from AG Business to Business Admin and possible minor in computer science
@Tannison were you able to accept the financial aid award today? we saw the financial aid award in the portal but could not accept/decline.
@CaliMck15 @Goolia66 woops…I forgot that the person I spoke to on the phone DID tell me that it would open April 1st at the latest; but that my D should watch her portal because there was a good chance it would open sooner. So we were indeed given the same information, it’s just that I forgot that not-so-minor detail. And @CaliMck15 although one can’t tell from my posts, I am also a veteran CP SLO parent–my oldest D is in her 3rd year and I’m hoping my youngest will commit so that they can be together and so that I can spend more time wine tasting . My oldest was accepted early decision though so her timeframe was quite different (housing was selected and paid for in January), and it all feels new again.
@luckymom22 Yes, the process was much different with my 2nd year daughter when they had ED…housing for reg decision seemed pretty much the same with the dates and all…What other schools are being considered by your younger daughter?
I don’t know if this has been addressed already (sorry if it has) - I received the email regarding applying to homes. I was just kinda wondering, do ALL accepted students get the chance to apply or only ones with certain stats? Does anyone know? It’s not really important in the long run- just curious, that’s all
@randomkid98 were you a victim of autocorrect? I have a feeling you meant to type “honors” instead of “homes”. Assuming that’s the case…here’s the link with the info about the honors program. Not everyone receives the email as it discusses here: http://honors.calpoly.edu/content/admissions
@CaliMck15 Her final three are Cal Poly, Northern Arizona and Chico State. She’s a Liberal Studies major; wants to be a teacher so all three would work for her. She loved the University of Oregon and that would have been her first choice if everything were equal, but it isn’t. She got some $$ from them but the out-of-state tuition is still too much. If it were truly her dream school I gave her the option to attend community college and then transfer, but she decided against that option. I’m hoping our attendance at the Open House and admitted students day will seal the deal for Cal Poly. But the three finalists are possible financially, so it’s ultimately up to her. How about your kiddo?
@CAMOM888 I didn’t try to accept the awards yet, as my son hasn’t made a final decision, so I’m not sure if it the accept/decline is working for us. We are still waiting on a few schools and then he will attend open house and make a decision.
@luckymom22 both my husband and I graduated from NAU. We loved it! Looks like she has 3 great choices.
@CAMOM888, major changes are possible, but can only be initiated after one quarter has been completed. A stumbling block for some is that the student had to be eligible for admission into the proposed major at the time of admission. In other words, the MCA had to be high enough to get into the new major at the time of application. I linked the page you need below.
