<p>I was accepted for Cal Poly’s Architecture program and will be a freshman for the 2013-2014 year. I thought I would start up a thread for everyone else that was as well. Please join and contribute your stats if you would like along with any questions you may have. Hopefully we can all help each other out and leave a thread that next years class of applicants will have to help them out too. </p>

<p>Where else did you apply to? I was deciding between sci arc and cal poly. I have a 3.8 and got a 26 on my act. I was kind of surprised they accepted me.</p>

<p>I originally applied to UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC, Cal Poly Pomona, and Cal Poly SLO. I applied to SLO ED though so once I got in, I soon after withdrew my other applications. I was accepted into Pomona before they received my letter but the other three were fully withdrawn before I found out if I was accepted. </p>
<p>And so I will be attending Cal Poly SLO in the Fall :D</p>

I know Cal Poly primarily cares about the raw academics numbers though.</p>
<p>I am choosing between Cal Poly and Sci-Arc as well, both of which I’m going to visit next week.
Leaning towards Cal Poly… Also suprised on my acceptance

I don’t know if this will help anyone but I’ll throw it out there because I struggled with my decision. There is a lot of bias information that can’t be trusted. There are stats and success stories to back each school. I talked with multiple architecture graduates from both schools and while each backed their school, they all focused on one point. What you get out of college is what you want. Multiple architects said recent college graduates weren’t ready to work in a firm but that’s how the architecture program works. You go to school to learn the theory, then you intern in order to be certified to learn how to work in a firm. Finally, I was told it’s the architect’s ambition that earns him/her the job, not his/her education. Sci-Arc is small and Cal Poly is big. They’re two very different schools that will provide two very different experiences but the same education. Choose the school you think you’ll enjoy the most.</p>
<p>That is exactly what I heard from the local architects here in Santa Cruz.
A big factor for me is location. SLO is a lot like my home town and living in downtown LA would not be so fun. However the content and resources at SCIarc seems so mind-blowing-ly amazing that I can’t choose. Also I would enjoy playing sports…
I guess the tours of each program will have to persuade me.

<p>For incoming arch students, could you tell me what you know about the job outlook for architects? I’ve seen stuff on yahoo saying it’s difficult to get consistent employment and that incomes are lower than you would hope for a 5 yr program. I’d love to hear what your research has turned up for you; also, if you went to open house, what did the head of the department have to say about future of architects in the program. Thanks for your help!</p>
<p>The only statistic I’ve heard is 1 in 5 architects in California graduated from Cal Poly. I interviewed two Cal Poly grads (they graduated in the 80’s so it has been a while for them). One architect owned a large firm of about 30 employees (the second largest in Idaho) and the other owned a firm of about 6 employees. Both were happy with their decisions but both said it’s all about dedication. If you desire to be successful and you work your butt of then you probably will have a fulfilling career. There are so many paths to go with architecture so your future will be what you make of it.</p>
<p>Is architecture a hard major to get into? For those accepted, anyone have an idea of minimum stats needed as far as sat/act go? Also, more of a tangent, what is a fairly easy major to get into at cal poly slo?</p>
