Cal Poly SLO---activities/parties

So I was recently accepted to Cal Poly SLO. I'm from a suburb outside of Philadelphia but have always loved California. I love what the university has to offer academically, however, I worry that I would get bored in such a small town. I know that there is the beach (which I love!) as well as many outdoor activities but what about the party scene?? I also am into Penn State, Udel, and Usouthcarolina. I like to work hard & play hard. How many nights a week do people go out? Is it easy to find parties? Any info/thoughts are greatly appreciated thanks!!

You should post this question in the Cal Poly SLO board. You would get more response there.

As for party in SLO, depending on your major, most people do go out and party on Friday and Saturday. For people with easier majors, their Friday night starts on Thursday, especially since Farmer’s market night, where they block off the entire downtown of SLO, is held on Thursday night.

There are ample amounts of bars, cafes, clubs, and restaurants in downtown SLO. So lots of students hang out for the night life in downtown or go to the various house parties held on the weekend by numerous CP students all over town. I would characterize the party scene as decent but tamed compared to say, UCSB. But it has an healthy amount of craziness nonetheless. You will see people lying on sidewalks and puking on occasion. And you will see a ample people lining up outside of clubs and bars in their party outfits, or rather their very tiny party outfits (for girls), in downtown SLO on the weekends.

On a whole, I think it is a good balance. It’s fun. Everyone hangs out in the same town and you have a REAL and memorable college bonding experience. If the scene were anymore crazier, most people would not graduate, since Cal Poly makes it a point to kick out the dumb/lazy/uncommitted/admission mistakes in large volumes every quarter.
