Transferring fall of 2017, and have a good chance of getting into Poly. I wanted to hear from those who have attended Cal Poly for business and know what their experience was. I know that their accounting major is quite good for job placement but I’m not so sure I’m interested in accounting. How is the finance program, or marketing, entrepreneurship? Is it easy to find jobs upon graduation? Do they let you take classes from a variety of concentrations or do u have to just pick on? Please share
i am not a student but, the Biz program at CP SLO is excellent. Graduates are heavily recruited in Silicon Valley and elsewhere. It is almost impossible to transfer into the school as a non-local applicant. They accept less than 300 business transfers a year, a significant portion from a select list of CCs that get preferential admission - which really skews the ‘average’ GPA they report. I encourage you to apply but, have an alternate in mind, even if you have a 4.0.
Good luck
Thanks for the info. I have a 3.74 and the average is 3.56 for bus, but you’re right I shouldn’t take it for granted that I could get in. But the good news is I do go to a community college in the Bay Area, I’m not applying from out of state or anything like that.
CP - and all CSUs have a list of CCs considered local - by charter, they are given preference for transfers.
I’d suggest you TAG UCR and apply to UCI as well as CSULB and SDSU and maybe Chico.
Good luck.
NCalRent: Is that list publicly accessible? Do you have a link?
Thanks!
Do you have any feel for how significant the admissions boost is for local engineering transfers? Do you think they’d take a local transfer with a 3.3 GPA over a non-local transfer with a 3.8 GPA, all else being equal?
Yeah I’m like a 3.7 trying to get in under accounting. Can anybody explain what the difference is between a major course and a support course? I can’t complete Statistics for Inferential management II at a junior college but it’s under support courses. What exactly is the difference between a support course and a major course?
like undergrad, they use an algorithm to score and rank applicants with what they call an MCA score. Completed courses, GPA and work experience are three of several factors but, it is a complicated black box. I have never found any real detail behind it like you can dig out for freshman admissions. Local applicants get an unspecified amount of bonus points- how they equate to GPA is anyone’s guess - but I don’t think it is that linear.
They don’t discuss the MCA there but, there you can find the courses that will give you the best shot at your intended major.

This is a more complete list of the criteria they include.
