Hello, I just have a few questions about SLO and campus life. Im most likely going to be attending as a freshman for fall 2017 (unless I get off the UCSB waitlist!) and just wanted to know a few things
-Im a pretty social person, I enjoy talking to people a lot and making friends, which dorm/hall would be best??
-Are dorms co-ed? Are there any that are not? If sso, is it by floor or girls on one side of the hall boys on the other?
-If I don’t bring a car, is the bus system pricy? Will I go crazy being on campus all the time?
-How early/soon can I join a sorority?
Any other information on campus life & the such would be helpful too! Like common knowledge known about things around campus and such, or just your personal experience at SLO. Thanks!!
The most social areas would be the redbricks and the towers. There is one redbrick building for each college and while they are super cramped they do make for exciting living! The towers, Sierra Madre and Yosemite, are more on the party side as far as dorms go but not everyone likes the appearance and living arrangement of them.
They aren’t co-ed as far as I know. For the Redbricks each wing is a gender and alternates by floor.
Do yourself a favor and do not bring a car! It’s expensive and you’ll have more fun without one. The main reasons I see for having a car are to get groceries and go downtown/explore. You will not have to worry about the former on campus. Honestly, some of favorite memories are exploring around by bus with all my friends freshmen year. Taking a bus to farmers market and also biking to Avila beach are good fun. Buses are free for students as mentioned above by @eyemgh .
You can join your freshmen year, I’m sure they have events quite often for recruitment.
Feel free to PM me if you have more specific questions. Cheers!
