@Jaximus I feel like I am reading my own situation exactly except for me it would be SF State that I commute to. My portal still says no determination and I feel like im just standing here waiting for them to make up their mind hahaha
I was denied this evening, but they received 57000 apps and only have about 5300 or so spots to fill. That’s absolutely insane, so it doesn’t surprise me that a large number of qualified applicants are being rejected. That is literally more competitive than UC Berkeley.
I don’t think it’s even worth petitioning. You have to imagine that thousands of others will be doing the same.
I know someone at my community college who is an international student who is waiting for CPSLO. They told her that she won’t even have access to the portal until they process her documentation, and that the decision won’t come until after April 1.
Does that make sense, that international students don’t have portal access to monitor their admissions status?
Rejected
Economics
Gpa: 3.43 at time of application, 3.65 after fall (really upset that they didn’t request fall grades)
Pre-Req’s: Needed an Accounting Class
IGETC: One class short, was gonna finish during spring
They received a ridiculous amount of applications this year. Getting into SLO was about as hard as getting into UCLA or Berkeley.
@anthonysilva Yeah I’m thinking about declining and heading to CSUN but when I see how many people I got picked over it makes me think that I should consider it carefully before I decline my admission. Maybe I’ll take a second visit to the school.
@schneybley How many major requirements did you complete at the end of Summer 2016? Did you complete Golden 4 by the end of Summer 2016?
I didn’t have any of the 3 major requirements done by summer 2016, but I had Golden 4 done. I will have the 3 major requirements done by the end of Spring 2017. By the end of summer 2016, I did Intro to Business (I know it’s not a support course for SLO), Macroecon, Microecon, and Calculus 1 (not Applied). My GPA was 4.0 by the end of Summer 2016.
I’m still no determination, and I think it’s because that they haven’t gotten to West Valley College. 2 other people in my accounting class applied and haven’t received any word.
@TheLongRun I have been in community college for a long time so I had nearly everything done except for a few pre req’s. Those were financial and managerial accounting, Macroeconomics. I think that’s it since the stats course I took years earlier counted, I took a separate one for CSUN last fall.
Denied. Bus-Admin. Acct.
3.75 GPA at the time of submission.
Golden 4: Done.
Major Pre-Req: In Progress at the time of submission with 1 class planned Sp 17’.
EC: 25+ hours/25+ hours.
Leadership? Yes.
Work Related? Yes.
Notable Courses Completed at the time of submission: Engineering Calculus (A). Macro&Micro- Econ (B).
I hope this information may be of use for next year’s applicants. Best of luck to all who have been accepted!
Denied
Major: Industrial Technology and Packaging
Current College: Irvine Valley College, but the majority of my units are from Cuesta College. I used to live in SLO.
IGETC: Completed
Major Prep: All completed except one physics class that will be completed at the end of this semester
GPA: 3.12
ECs: Full time job. I put that I worked 21+ hours a week, I think that was the highest option. I put “None” for hours per week spent on clubs/activities.
In-State, Out-of-State: In state
I guess my GPA just wasn’t high enough, or maybe I needed clubs or activities? Really bummed because SLO was my top choice and I actually have a genuine interest in that major and not many schools have something like it. I also really want to move back to SLO. I was really hoping I would get in since my major isn’t very popular and that most of my units are from Cuesta. Oh well I guess.
@squirtlesquirtle I thought for sure you would get in. That sucks man.
Business Admin with concentration in marketing managment, still waiting to hear back. 3.43 gpa, from the Bay Area. Has anyone else heard back with concentrations in Marketing Mgmt?
@schneybley No worries! Looks like the SLO life just wasn’t for me. But you should definitely consider SLO! The campus and its surroundings is beautiful. No other campus in California can compare…except for maybe UCSB.
Thankfully I’ve been accepted to a few other great unis. Will be attending SJSU in the Fall unless I receive a fancy package in the mail from USC, haha.
@squirtlesquirtle Nice to know things still work out for you. I hear SJSU is great for accounting and USC definitely sounds great if it’s affordable. I kind of wish I applied there. I’ll probably take a second visit to SLO and see what I can uncover.
Anyone going to the open house thing in April? For that matter what exactly should we expect to see if we go to this?
Hey Guys,
I’m a little late to post my stats and I did hear back.
Admissions decision result: Rejected
CCC student
Major: Business Administration ( Finance)
GPA: 3.32 (now it’s a 3.28)
Igetc: Complete with the 4 course pattern
Major Prep: I had all of them planned in Fall/Winter/Spring. But I got an A in the first accounting course while I had finished all of the support classes (Calc I, Stats, Econ)
EC: 20ish hours and I have had a leadership position
And I was planning to get an ADT in economics before my Spring quarter
And I had 72 quarter units prior to applying (I have 92 right now)
I have a question. So My back up major was sociology. Since I did not get into BA, would I still have the option to go into sociology ? Any information would be greatly appreciated
Do you think I have a chance? I am an international student at Orange Coast College. I am applying for Computer Engineering.
I have 3.59 GPA and I’m still trying to object a B that I got last fall for a 3 unit class.
I have got straight As for the entire honors math sequence (from calc 1 to lin algebra), plus right now I am taking the last honors class offered in our college, called Calculus on Manifolds.
All programming classes (C++, data structures) are also A. But I had a C in Public Speaking and couple of Bs (one was for E&M class which was really challenging and I had 24 units that semester).
Even though I put a solid amount of work over these two years, I’m kinda worried about my relatively low GPA in this major…does anybody know if there is a chance to get in with 3.59?
@anthonysilva they send an email or did u just check the portal
@Rshah123 If you didn’t hear that they would accept your second choice major (sociology) when you got your "
“rejected” notification for the Bus Admin major…it is unlikely. You can certainly always call to inquire though! Good luck to you.
Rejected.
Bus Admin (Acct)
GPA: 3.91
Core 4: Done
Major Pre-Req: Was planning to finish stats, econ 1 and 2 during spring 2017.
CSU GE Breath: Still needed the two history classes and an intercultural studies class; but I didn’t think they’d be so strict about it since I finished almost all my major classes
I still don’t understand the primary reason why I got rejected. Is it really because it’s so impacted? Or my lack of extra curricular activities? That’s pretty harsh. This was my number one choice Do you think I’ll get into any UCs then? I applied to Berkeley, Davis, Riverside, Irvine, LA, and tagged to Santa Barbara. Getting this email two days ago was really discouraging.
Rejection email:
"Thank you for giving us the opportunity to consider your application for admission to Cal Poly for the 2017 fall quarter. Due to the extremely limited number of openings available in the Business Administration program, we regret that we are unable to offer you admission.
Cal Poly received nearly 57,000 applications for the fall 2017 quarter for approximately 5,300 available student openings. To be as fair as possible to all applicants, we utilize an objective admission selection process developed by our faculty. We compare transfer applicants to other transfer applicants who have applied to the same major. We consider your program of study in college, your academic performance in classes, your work experience and extra-curricular activities."
@VictoryPham You probably got rejected because you didn’t finish your CSU GE. Missing 3 GEs is a lot to not have. Missing 1 isn’t so bad. I don’t see where you would need an intercultural studies class on my community college CSU GE class list with all the required categories. However, you’re lacking history, which means you’re probably missing the American Institutions Requirement. It’s possible that you probably could have gotten into your local CSU with the missing GE, but I can’t say for sure.
Also, yes, SLO is hard to get in as a transfer, and impaction is one of the reasons why. I’d say, based on the info on this thread, that it’s probably easier to get in as an HS senior going into Freshman year.
Your lack of ECs didn’t hurt you that bad. From previous threads that I’ve read, they count for like 5%. CSUs don’t really care about ECs. SLO just asks for them probably to be a little different. Someone can give you a better reason why.
As long as you will have 60 or more units, getting into a UC probably isn’t as bad, despite missing a few GEs. CSUs are terribly impacted and heavily favor their respective local CCs. I don’t think this bias is as bad for the UCs.
You have a shot for sure for Davis and Riverside, assuming you did Man. Econ for D and Bus Admin for R. Irvine is hard to get in for Bus Admin b/c the program is small and spaces are limited. They let Freshmen in, so they don’t restrict the Bus school to just Juniors. Irvine isn’t like Berkeley for Haas. I’m not going to comment on B, LA, or SB b/c I don’t know what they do. They’re tough to get in, and you’re at or close to the GPA, but missing the GEs may haunt you.
Having little to no ECs for Haas is pretty detrimental b/c a lot of applicants have the same GPA and ECs.
