Cal Poly SLO Liberal Arts and Engineering Studies

Does anyone have any experience with SLO’s cross-disciplinary Liberal Arts and Engineering Studies? Would appreciate any input. How difficult is it to be accepted into (apparently you can only apply after your first year). Do you “give up” your original major for this? Do employers value this type of program?

Thanks!

It depends completely on what you want to do when you get out. In general, if you want to be a practicing engineer, the non-ABET programs like this are frowned upon. They give up too much engineering breadth and depth to work in non-engineering courses. If you want to work in the financial sector or use engineering problem solving skills to some other end, it might be OK.

Thanks!

You’re welcome! Good luck!
