Hey all, I see in my portal that there is a mention of this years Open House slated to be on April 11 and 12. Beyond that, there isn’t much info. Even though it says to check back later in March for more details, does anyone recall the tentative schedule from past years’ open houses? For travel planning purposes, it would be very helpful if people could post the rough start and end time for the Open House on each day. Also, any links to last years info would be very, very helpful. Thank you all so much and hopefully I’ll see the other admitted students there next month!

I have heard that the hotels book up pretty quick so may want to get a reservation set up if you plan to go. Couple of other places for info I believe is the early decision thread and on the CP Parents community page on FB. You can request to join once your kid has accepted admission .

@jackechan Scroll down to OsakaDad’s post on Open House here: <a href=“OFFICIAL CAL POLY SLO 2013-2014 Early Decision - #391 by jsook724 - Cal Poly San Luis Obispo - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/1561888-official-cal-poly-slo-2013-2014-early-decision-p27.html

Thanks to both of you! Very helpful

never mind…those were from 2013!

I emailed Cal Poly to ask about Open House details and here is the response I got:

"On 4/10 we will be previewing our downtown San Luis Obispo area. Every Thursday, we have our Farmers’ Market and this is where we invite our guests to come visit. We will be having a preview of what Saturday’s Campus Showcase will be like. The Open House Committee will also be there to answer any questions you may have.

4/11 will be our Admitted Students Preview Day. Here, yourself and your daughter will be able to meet with her college for the first time. She will have a chance to meet faculty, staff, and current students within her college and major. You will also be invited to participate in various activities your daughter’s college will be putting on. Later on that night, your daughter will have a chance to meet other incoming freshmen and get to know people outside of her major. At the same time as this, you will have the chance to speak with current students and other parents and supporters of other admitted students.

Finally, on Saturday, 4/12, we will have our Campus Showcase. Here, your daughter will get the chance to see what extracurricular activities the university offers that she can become a part of.

If I were to recommend a day that you come, I would say that Friday is more important because it really gives your daughter a chance to see what academic life is like at Cal Poly."

@caligirl14 Thank you very much! That’s exactly what I was looking for :)

You are invited to the PolyCultural Weekend 2014! For two days, experience Cal Poly life with a current Cal Poly student as your personal host. He or she will be with you during program events.
Any accepted students get this email?
Kinda confused on what to attend now…

I got the email!
I feel like it’s kind of a hassle to attend both weekends. I might just go to the Polycultural weekend since it seems more intimate.
I’ll have to see.

Just checked with my daughter and she did indeed receive the email.

i think i’m going to the Polycultural event too…need to talk to my parents though.

The Open House has always been a big deal, are they trying to spread the crowds out or trying to be like every public gradeschool in CA and offer a multi-cultural event? You certainly don’t need to do both and Open House weekend is a proven success, but maybe the other is a smaller thing for those that want it. I assume you will see cultural dancing type stuff rather than the big school spirit events put on at Open House.

from NorCal and didn’t receive the Poly Cultural invite. maybe its for certain majors or region or culture.

PolyCultural is not meant to see some cal poly cultural dance shows… it’s a more intimate version of Open House and you basically have a shadow from your intended major, and you get a more one-on-one attention during this event rather than Open House. You still get to talk to your respective majors and college spokesman during both events, so you should choose from both events depending on your availability on those weekends.
