Cal Poly SLO Transfer Thread for Fall 2020

Did anyone get in as a transfer for statistics? I got waitlisted with a 3.7 not local.

@Falco322 did you get waitlisted today?

@slotown2789 I haven’t heard back either. I know quite a few applicants with good stats that haven’t heard back as well. I applied as Business Admin with a 3.92

Are you local?

@Falco322 I havent heard back yet so i’m assuming rejection

@rainofserein don’t assume it yet, they don’t send out acceptances all at once

I agree - I got accepted to Business Administration with a 3.73;

  • Not local
  • 2 Associate's degree
  • Working 25% related to my major (Learn by Doing)
  • IGETC certified
  • 3 years of leadership positions in business clubs
  • Lots of hours in volunteering.

I even took a W in Calculus 1 cuz I was getting a B and retook it the next semester & got an A which was a huge gamble on what a fat W in Calc 1, of all classes, would like on my transcript.

(Super Late lol) I want to post my stats for those who are on the fence about applying, and think Cal Poly SLO is a reach… just apply because you never know.
Major: Poli Sci
GPA: 2.3
AA-T/AS-T?: No
Pre-reqs: Will be finished after the spring semester
Golden Four: C, C, A, B
Local: No
EC: Full-time caregiver for my parent and piano teacher for low-income children.
Applied: Cal Poly SLO, UCSB, UCSC, UCD, UCLA, UCB
Accepted: Cal Poly SLO

If you don’t mind me asking, how many years have you been in a CCC?

I personally feel as if the CSU admissions algo has a bias against students that are on-schedule for a four-year graduation.

Of all my friends, only one has been accepted to Cal Poly Biz so far that is in the Class of 2022. My classmates that are on their fourth year or beyond have had much better luck in admissions than my personal friends, who are 4.0 students with Gartner, Bloomberg and Google internships…

I also took a W on Calc I, except I was basically failing. Now I’m doing a lot better and have kept an A. I think having two associate degrees helped (BA and econ).

I did horrible my first semester of college (1.8 or something like that lol) but had an upward trend on grades and kept getting 4.0s till last fall when I took a W for Calc. I was holding out on a decision from SDSU since my classes this semester are prereqs (CIS & Excel), but I am committing to Cal Poly!

I’ve been in a community college for 3 years.

I feel at a community college, it’s very difficult to finish in 2 years due to all the prerequisite courses they require before you can take the courses you actually need.

For example, I had to take Algebra 2 at community college (because I never took it in high school) before I was allowed to take College Algebra, Macro & Micro Economics which all had a lock on them until I completed Algebra 2. So that set me back 1 semester, making it at least a 2 1/2 year journey.

Hi guys should I be worried if I haven’t heard back yet from SLO for Business Admin.? My friends have been hearing back from both waitlisted and accepted.

@ashpakks Be patient, they’re still sending out decisions. Don’t lose hope; good luck!

Agreed, not disenfranchising your hard work and dedication, the bureaucracy of admissions is meant to weed out the bad applicants, not to pick out the good ones.

I was in the same position and did 115 hours in 6 quarters and have nothing to show for it, and I’m not alone in this regard, as noted above.

I blame the algorithm.

I honestly thought that maybe they’re just being a little slow due to all the coronavirus stuff but maybe I just haven’t heard back because I was rejected or they’re just taking their sweet time, who knows… ??

I have a higher GPA and I still have not heard back. Someone, please tell us why?

Do they accept by major or by last name or the date you turned in your supplementary application or what?

Because Cal Poly doesn’t admit people solely based on GPA. Your GPA is just 1 of several factors used to determine admission.

Other factors are:

  • If you have a job
  • If that job is 25% related to your major
  • How many hours you work per week
  • How many Prerequisites you left for Spring semester. (They have to make predictions on all those grades you left for the end)
  • How many Volunteering hours you have
  • If you've held Leadership positions
  • If you live Locally to SLO
  • If you're IGETC certified
  • If you have an Associate's degree with Transfer

These are just some of the factors.
So you can see it is a lot more than just having a Higher GPA.

GUYYYYYSSSSSS
