Hello I am a current community college student psychology major. I will be transferring fall of 2016. What gpa should I aim for if I'm transferring to cal poly slo or uc davis. Also which would you prefer

if you are a CA resident then you should look into the guaranteed admission program to Davis called TAG.

TAG is a great way to get into UCD - The required courses and GPA are all spelled out for each major. Read about it here: <a href=“TAG Requirements”>http://tag.ucdavis.edu/counselors/criteria.cfm

SLO though is a total crap shoot for transfers.

Which I’d prefer depends on a major, budget and other considerations.

There is a transfer forum in CC.

@ncalrent i do plan on using tag for uc davis however i would prefer cal poly slo for its price but uc davis has that uc stigma that may benefit me in the long run. i have a 3.5 gpa at my ccc and i will have all of my classes done for the psychology requirements. do you think you could chance me for cal poly?

For psychology, i’d give the edge to UCD but, not by much.

I know someone who got rejected as a transfer by SLO but was accepted by several UCs - and is starting @ UCLA next week. That’s how competitive it is…

Apply to both and see what happens. They are both really competitive so, also apply to a safety like Chico or CSULB.

Good luck.

Another factor here might be the non-overlap of requirements, assuming this sentence is referring to someone applying as a Psychology major. Cal Poly lists 7 requirements and says that you have no chance without completing all of them - see http://admissions.calpoly.edu/applicants/transfer/criteria/psy.html UCLA also requires 7 courses, but several are different from the ones at Cal Poly.
@mikemac @NCalRent thank you both so much! Real help forreal

Long beach would not be a safety. I would have to agree about Davis, especially if you need to complete your graduate studies, but, if you are significantly affected by cost, then go to SLO.
