Cal Poly SLO vs UC Davis vs University of Washington for computer science

Japher, okay?

It says 1-3 years, which means end of Freshman to End of Junior range. Most get in before the end of their Junior year. Some are admitted directly as Freshman before even taking a class. Lastly, there is “Early Admission” as well, which allows you to get in before you finish all your prerequisities.

I myself went into the CS program in my Sophomore year. And thats only because I didn’t know what I wanted to major in coming in as a freshman, and hadn’t ever even taken a CS/Programming class prior to the ones I took in my freshman year. Some of my friends were admitted as Freshman.

Trust me, I would know lol.

Ok, I am literally tearing my hair out over this decision. I got this email from a Cal Poly grad the other day-

As far as the school itself as one of the better schools for C.S. I read your email and you listed probably one of the finest schools; actually it ranks 10 in the top 20 universities for a c.s. major.

Cal Poly is a vacation school and I would not select it if you are serious about C.S. I chose it because of my friends and I got lucky that a professor thought I had talent. I would highly recommend that you go to U.W. and then decide what area of C.S. you want to specialize in. Also, it is easier to get C.S. jobs in the midwest; hard in California because everyone wants to live here because of the weather and all the high tech that goes on here.

Well, after much consideration I am now between Cal Poly and Davis (I know, indecisive right?). Anything anyone else can tell me about those schools would be great. 3 FRAKIN DAYS LEFT TO DECIDE!!!

^uhh isnt the SIR due on may 1st?

ie tommorrow?

Cal Poly does have a nice college lifestyle being a small town, but so does Davis.

Cal Poly is close (w/in 1-2 hours) to Pismo and Paso Robles (eh?)
Davis is close to Sacramento, San Francisco, and Tahoe

Davis is a UC
Cal Poly is not

The level of education will be about the same, IMO
Upto PhD at Davis, MS at Cal Poly

It’s a tough choice. I went to Davis and had a great time. I have family and friends who went to SLO and loved it as well.

CalPoly has better career resources. Davis has more research.

You can go to grad school from CalPoly and work after Davis, but generally the opposite order will be more typical.
