Interested either in MECH ENG or ACCOUNTING
ACT 27 (just retook)
GPA 3.7 unweighted/3.5 weighted
Do I have a chance for either major?
What other CSU’s or UC’s do you recommend for MECH ENG?

ME has about a 10-14% acceptance rate so your chances are low. Accounting/Bus Admin has about a 28% acceptance rate so chances are better but still a slight Reach. SLO also uses 9th grades in their GPA calculation so you need to recalculate your GPA.
I would look at UCR/UCSC/UCM/SDSU/CSULB/CSU Fullerton/SJSU and Cal Poly Pomona for ME. UCR along with the rest of the Cal States including CSU Northridge would be good options for Accounting.
.
I should recalculate GPA because you are assuming mine excludes 9th grade? What does CP mean? Very helpful!
Also, is there a formula that gets you to the 14%?
Thank you so much.
CP means Cal Poly GPA since they are the only CSU that uses 9-11th grades for admission. Also the GPA posted does not seem right. Your UW GPA is higher than weighted? Did you use the CSU/UC Calculator such as Roger Hub?

GPA and test scores make up the bulk of the MCA score which SLO uses to rank applicants by major.
The formula for acceptance rate is based on SLO’s projected target enrollment they post each year.
Here is the info:
Project Full time Freshman slots: 180
Project # of applicants: 3163
Multiply 180 x3 (accept 3 times as many spots) and divide by # of applicants which gives a projected acceptance rate of 17% for 2016 which is a little higher than quoted. Again these are projected #'s and they will change based on the true # of applicants, their stats and the # of spots available.
