Im very interested in Cal Poly SLO but im also looking at UCSB and SDSU. i have a 3.59 unweighted GPA 1930 on SATs and 29 ACT. I want to major in Economics with a minor in communications.

What about UCR and UCSC? UCSB is a slight reach for you, Cal Poly SLO seems to be a high match, depending on your weighted GPA, same with SDSU.

the reason i picked calpoly and sdsu is because they have a great business program, especially cal poly. i havent really looked into UCR or UCSC.

Go to Cal Poly over UCR and UCSC… it’s a great area and has a better business program than people give it credit for.

yes cal poly is for sure my number one choice it has the second best business program in california behind uc berkley. my concerns were my GPA and test scores, my gpa is lower than it should be but my test scores are alright, im re-taking the ACT because i know its the prefered test at cal poly. do you think i have a good chance?

What’s your weighted GPA?

weighted its like a 3.59:/

You didn’t take any AP/Honors courses? If not, what does your school offer?

Regardless, 3.59 is not that far off of the average GPA @ Cal Poly, and your SAT is higher than average for a non-engineer applicant.

i took 2 ap courses. my school offers a lot its one of the best, most rigorous public high schools in california. i also have an ROP course in Economics of Business Ownership so hopefully that will help also. i m banking on the test scores to get me into cp.

Well it’s too bad you didn’t take a more rigorous course-load, but I still think you have a great chance of getting in. Raise the SAT higher if you want to be sure.

i guess, this is what i have to work with so im tryin to get as good of an idea as i can about getting in. what about early decision?

Figure out your UC GPA, if you took AP classes it has to be higher than your unweighted. SB’s average UC GPA is a 4.0, so that’s a long shot although your SAT is good for them so it’s possible.

my weighted is 3.67 and unweighted is 3.59.

you’re good to go at SDSU. They’ve got a great business program there too.

Getting into UCSB depends on your extracurricular activities and such…and the UC GPA system (knock out freshman year’s grades)

but I’m pretty sure you’ll get into SDSU and Cal Poly

thanks. does anyone know if early decision will help me get into either SDSU or Cal Poly?

your gpa is low for ucsb

try calpoly

& no SDSU is not a good choice at all, trust me (unless you are really dumb or something)

yea i heard that anyone can get into SDSU basically. Cal Poly seems much more serious. im lookin for a quality school that will give me a lot of opportunities while im there, and after. CP seems too fit that profile much better than any other CSU.
