Cal Poly vs. UC's??

would you choose Cal Poly San Louis Obisbpo over UCSB/UCSC???? Cal Poly is ranked #5 on the US News Masters University list... UCSB is #45 on the US News University list....??

They're all good schools, but I would choose Cal Poly only over the UCs for certain majors. For the liberal arts and some sciences, go for the UCs, but for areas of study like business, nutrition, journalism, or even things like engineering, I'd consider Cal Poly as possibly a better option. The exception would be UCB's school of business, for obvious reasons, and UCSD for bioengineering.

So yeah, it depends on the major/area of study.

Look beyond US News and go to whichever is best for you.

Aye, we need to know your intended major to figure out if you should pick Cal Poly SLO over UCSC or UCSB.

Cal Poly is great at a few majors like engineering and not so good for everything else.

So if your major is a Cal Poly specialty major than definitely pick it over SC and SB, but if your major is not a Cal Poly special, then I would pick UCSC/UCSB, which has far better programs in the liberal arts.

Cal Poly SLO is a pre-professional school, not a research university like the UCs... As a result, Cal Poly SLO is ranked outside of UCSB in the U.S. News and World Report rankings, which separates Ph.D. institutions like the UCs and M.S. institutions like Cal Poly SLO into different ranking categories.
