Cal poly vs ucsd in engineering

Hello,
I’ve been accepted into both of these universities(cal poly and ucsd) under electrical engineering for cal poly and bioengineering for ucsd. I’m really having a hard time choosing between the 2 universities especially since these two universities are really good(or should I say well-renowned) for the two majors I got listed under.
Please help me decide!!=/

It is hard to respond to this post because you first need to decide what you want to major in. If its EE, I would go to Cal Poly. If it is bioengineering, UCSD is really highly ranked. EE majors can work in all fields, since almost everything uses electricity. We toured University of Wisconsin-Madison and an EE grad student was working on a cool biomedical mechanical arm type device. Also, have you visited both schools? Have you spent any time in the engineering departments? I would really recommend doint that if you have not. You will be able to get the “vibe” of the campus and department. My son loved the vibe of SLO. By the way, he also loves the Badgers, but is starting to lean towards SLO. He does not like UCSD at all. What works for one kid may not work for another. You just have to spend some time on each campus. That is the only way.

My son and I went to UCSD last summer and we didn’t like it there either. Too big and gray! We didn’t see the engineering department though. It is of course an awesome school! the vibe was much more intense and not what my son likes.

I’m almost in the same situation, for I was accepted into Biomedical Engineering at SLO and Bioengineering: Biotechnology for UCSD. I visited both admit days and while I really liked UCSD, I must say that Cal Poly felt like home to me. Nevertheless, I can’t deny the really good bioengineering program at UCSD, and they gave me a good scholarship grant when Cal Poly gave me virtually nothing. Also, I’m from the San Diego area and I want to leave home for a while for college before graduate/medical school, and SLO is excellent for that! For me, it was the other admitted students and small college town lifestyle that set it, but I’m still waiting for more money and scholarships to come in before I commit to SLO…
