I’ve been accepted to both colleges and I cannot decide. I love the environment and the campus that Utah has. I love Salt Lake and the local skiing that Utah has to offer. Cal Poly on the other hand is a great institution with a fabulous reputation. They have great academics and great connections to getting a job after graduation. I will major in Biology at Utah and dairy science at Cal Poly. I need help deciding and is looking for more outside input.
I believe @eyemgh’s son had a similar choice a few years ago, and he summarized it well in this thread: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/1879046-cal-poly-slo-vs-u-of-utah-electrical-engineering.html
However, I think the choice is perhaps clearer in engineering than for your subjects, and you didn’t specify if the cost is equivalent, or if there is a meaningful financial difference to consider (are you in-state for Cal Poly?). Some of the other aspects to consider include whether you are interested in being at a college with PAC-12 sports (a significant advantage for Utah) and which of the two courses you prefer. Also, if you do decide to go to Utah, you should register for accommodation very soon (if you haven’t done so already - the Honors deadline was last week) as it will be in relatively short supply this coming year.
