Cal Poly: Will Rescind?

The question: will Cal Poly change their mind about me?

As it stands, I applied with a 3.59 weighted GPA (3.50 unwt) and a 33 cumulative ACT score for an Econ major. I got in, and breathed out a sigh of relief. It may be that I breathed out a little much.
I am taking the senior minimum of 5 classes. AP Stat, AP Calc BC, AP Comp Gov, Spanish 4 Honors (weighted) and regular English 4.
First semester I sort of hopped along- B's in all the weighted classes and an A in English, coming out to a better-than-ever weighted 4.0.
...BUT here came second semester. As it stands, I'm looking at a C- in Stat, an irreversible C in Calc, C+/B- in Comp Gov (which I'll no doubt work to pull up), a B in Spanish and maybe an A in English. Of course, it's too late to drop anything and take geology instead...

Cal Poly's statement is that they will revoke admission if any of the grades fall below a C (does C- count? There is still a little time left to change it to a regular C, which I'll of course try) or if they simply "drop significantly".
What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance.

I do know someone who got an admission offer rescinded by Cal Poly SLO. I think it was a D in Physics that did him in, but his other grades were okay. I’m not sure of his semester GPA.

Bottom line: I recommend you work very hard to bring up those grades. I know you probably have senioritis, but ask yourself how badly you want to go to Cal Poly this fall.

P.S. To follow up on this young man, he did 2 years of cc and is now happily at UC Santa Cruz. So his life didn’t end. But your concern suggests to me that you really want Cal Poly. You still can make it happen.

For UCs you have to notify of a D or an F, so that’s when you would get rescinded. I would think that the CSUs would have a similar policy. Although you should try to bring your grades up, if nothing else so that you don’t have to stress about it. I think you’ll be fine, but a good goal would be to try to bring everything one grade up, as in a C to a C+, that may make it less daunting for you. If you’re still really worried, you could always call and ask them about your policies. I’m sure everything will work out, don’t worry too much!

I just looked back and you’re taking mostly weighted classes, so that will also help, you’re getting Bs in your gpa not Cs

Yes, the final weighted gpa for the second semester would be a 3.4 to 3.6 depending, but it’s the grades individually that have me worried.
I have a strong chance of moving the stat grade to a normal C, and the gov grade is on the line. Both of these I will obviously try my hardest to improve, but the rest, unfortunatly, are already locked in place.

I think you’ll be okay.

My guess is a C- is okay. My son received a D in AP Calc during his first semester of his senior year of high school, after he had been accepted by Cal Poly. We notified the school and he was told his admission would have to be reviewed again. What ended up happening was he was given a conditional admission. He was told he could not receive any additional Ds or his admission would in fact be rescinded. Fortunately, he brought his grades up in that class the second semester and he was admitted. You have to notify the admissions department to put the application back into review. They take Ds and Fs very seriously.
