Cal Poly's acceptance rate last year was 34%

Woah did anyone know this. Its on collegeboard.com… I remember looking at it a couple months ago and it was like 44% or something… But now its 34%!? It has to be one of the most exclusive colleges considering that it recieves more than 30k applicants a year… Pretty soon maybe Cal Poly will recieve some more national reputation and publicity. Definitely feeling pretty prestigious right now lol

they updated it for this year. a few other colleges have already done this actually.

yeah,for fall 2008,it was 34%. Collegeboard updates kinda slow.

You do realize that you dont have to go to collegeboard to figure out the acceptance rate of last years students. You’re not going to see fall 2009 until this summer or after fall semester actually starts. All you have to do is go on cal poly admission site go on college profile and just do the simple math yourself. It’s not that hard, and also by that, you can actually see what the acceptance rate for each college at cal poly was. For instance last fall for transfer students for engineering it was a 37% acceptance rate. Just because the school as a whole had a 34% acceptance rate doesn’t mean your college did. That’s just the average of all the students applied. If you go on the student profile it will help you more, because you actually get to see all the colleges. Try that.

Yeah I realize that, it still is pretty savage that Cal Poly as a campus only admitted 33%(wikipedia), considering that it is a public state school. Where can I find the acceptance averages by college or major?

doesn’t show averages but like j.irvin020 said you’ll have to do the math to get the percentages.

Thanks…
Acceptance Averages:

Science & Math= 35%
Liberal Arts= 25%
Engineering= 42%
Business= 27%
Architecture= 25%
Agriculture= 45%

Every college is pretty selective actually…

I can’t believe acceptance rates plunged to 34% though. It was 45% a year earlier.

Wow…do I even have a chance of being admitted for Computer Science?

-Junior
-GPA: 3.6 uw
-SAT: 1930 (CR: 570, M: 720, W: 640)
-Math lvl 2: 700
-ACT: 30
-and I don’t feel like sharing my personal life stuff…sorry

also, I have taken only 1.5 AP classes so far…I think that looks like prettyyyy bad…my question is, does cal poly admissions staff actually look at the courseload of senior years?

cal poly is a much better school than a lot of people realize

does anything think this year’s rate will be below 30%?

oops…anyone**

Why is the rate so low, when a lot of people, including myself, got accepted with really low sat scores and low gpas… this makes no sense. Is it just the applicant pool or what?

no one knows.=/. It will always be a mystery.

Another reason besides being one of the most selective California public schools is that they are more likely to accept those based on where you live. If you live in the county you have a greater change of getting in over someone out of state or even a few counties over. there is a similar system for some of the UC’s where they draw from local schools. I am guessing as the school gains recognition in the wider world it has gained more applicants from across the country and even from other countries.

yea i’m not surprised at the drop in acceptance. a few of my friends who i thought would get in didn’t and they had pretty darn good stats…

This may seem really weird, but the majority (a LARGE majority) of the ppl who applied to Cal Poly from my school got in. It was like seeing a massive acceptance spree. So I wonder if the accepance rate @ SLO really went down?

I read somewhere that all the CSU’s are localizing, so the closer you live to it the higher the chance you’ll get in. This would explain why some people with good stats got rejected (they live far away) and a whole high school seems to get mass acceptance (they live near SLO)

what’s the rate this year?

D is a Junior in HS this year, and we just toured Cal Poly a week ago on 3/30/09. I am pretty sure the Admission Counselor told us in the Info Session that the admission rate this year (2009) was 31.5%. Last year was 33.3%, per the profile info on the website. Admission rate varies by college.
Last year (2008):
Agriculture 40%
Architect 25%
Business 28%
Engineering 43%
Liberal Arts 25%
Science, Math 35%
