Cal Poly's acceptance rate last year was 34%

i am pretty sure you can get in. I got in this year as aerospace engineering. I had a 4.3 GPA and 1620 SAT.
And they dont look at SAT II.

I know a lot of people have low GPA and not as high SAT got in.
I think you will be fine.

I can give you the numbers for this fall for Mechanical Engineering Transfer Students
241 applied, 28 were accepted

My S did NOT get in…Mechanical Engineering

4.3 w
3.8 uw
1990 SAT (I can’t recall the individual sections…Cal POly does not look at writing. He did get High numbers on the math)
3 aps completed and highest awards for AP Calculus and Latin. (As a senior he’s taking 5 aps and is doing well in all of them).
Tons of ec’s.
His SAT was a little low, but he wasn’t even waitlisted. We have no idea why he wasn’t accepted when this was clearly a target school for him.
I’m just letting you know that NOTHING is certain. Do your best and apply. You may get in, you may not.
He will be attending UCI in the fall.

A lot of kids at my school got accepted too. When the admissions rep came to our school to talk to us about SLO, she said Cal Poly really wanted to recruit/accept more students from our school specifically, so maybe the admit rate did go down, but they admitted many students from certain schools.

What part of CA are you in Clee09?

I should point out that ME is the single most impacted major at Cal Poly. It’s also the single largest major at Cal Poly.

I was guessing this, too. My cousin had a 1500 SAT and a 4.1 with only varsity cross country and track for 4 years and got in. No work experience. No volunteering.

I know another guy with a 1800 SAT and like a 3.4 GPA who got int without a single extracurricular. :/

I’m gladly attending Cal Poly for environmental engineering, but it always makes me regret it. It’s always as if I feel I would do better going to Irvine (eh) or Davis (eh…)

slodad, I’m from Santa Clara/Silicon Valley

according to this, [Undergraduate Admissions - Admissions - Cal Poly](http://www.ess.calpoly.edu/_admiss/counselors/) 31,400 applied for fall 2009 freshmen.

For fall 2008, 33,356 applied for freshmen, so almost 2,000 less students applied.

I wonder if it had anything to due with the budget cuts?

Poly definitely favors locals, and they are much more lenient in stats if you’re a transfer student than fresh out of high school. If you don’t get in out of HS, and want to live in the area, Cuesta and Hancock both work closely with Cal Poly. Me and most of my friends went that route because it’s a lot easier to get the first 2 years of General Ed done at those schools since Poly is SO increadibly impacted. The general eds are practically impossible to get in at Poly. It takes about 6 years for most people to graduate too, because of the sheer amount of people trying to get into certain classes.
Most of us locals go that route because it’s way easier and cheaper in the long run!

you are probably gonna be fine  I know someone who got in the program and she never even took calculus yet! I also got in the program (in 2006) and i got a much lower sat score than you did haha. Also, i heard that cal poly looks more at the ACT score instead of the sat score.

I am from Templeton which is a half hour from San Luis Obispo and going to Allan Hancock College and Cuesta College. I heard we get points from going to a high school in the area. How much help do i get for living in the area? I am trying to get into city planning which has an average GPA of 3.3 of selected students and I have 3.2. Do they try to take all locals first? It really helps my family out if I go to Cal Poly SLO since it saves money. I wonder which high school in the county gets the best chance into Cal Poly SLO. Templeton, Morro Bay, AG, or SLO? Or perhaps Mission Prep?

Hey can any of you give me some feedback please? I’m applying to Cal Poly for transfer with a 3.3 GPA. What are my chances of getting in for psychology?

Where can you find stats by major, on acceptances, high school gpa etc?

I think it is great to go the CC route to save money and for other reasons, but to say that general eds at Cal Poly are “practically impossible to get into” is completely false. Also the statement that it takes 6 years for students to graduate from there.

My daughter and her friends have not had an issue getting into their GE and/or major classes, and they are all going to graduate on time. It does help to have AP credit, though!

How does the local advantage work out? Is it only SLO High students or anyone who went to a high school in the county?

Thanks

david12345. I don’t know. The document I have simply says the geographic bonus was for a campus defined service area. It does not state what that area is.

How will that play with the students who get their AA?

How much of a bonus is this geographic bonus because I heard it’s like just 3 pts.
