Cal State Eligibily

Where can I find the average eligibility index for each cal state? A link would be appreciated. Thanks

Other than SJSU which publishes their EI cutoffs by major, there is no published averages for any of the Cal States. Most Cal states will publish the minimums required for applying, but the EI’s stated on this website have been from data collected by CC posters over the years to give applicants an idea of their possible chances.

The more competitive the CSU and major, the higher the EI needs to be for an acceptance. EI’s will also fluctuate from year to year and major to major. It is all dependent upon the stats of each in-coming Freshman class.

SLO is the only CSU that does not use EI for acceptance. They have their own calculation and ranking based on MCA points. Again, these are not published but can be calculated and posted on their acceptance threads so you can see patterns.

The number for the more selective colleges vary by somewhat major and some STEM programs at some CSUs use a different calculation altogether but for a major like Business - here’s my best guess at the non-local but, in–state threshold.
CPSLO - NA
SDSU - 4100
CSULB 3900
CSUFullerton 3800
Chico 3700
CPP 3700
CSUN 3700
CSU Fresno 3500
Sonoma 3300
SJSU 3200
San Marcos 3200
Sac 3100
CSUMB 3000
SF, EB, CI Humboldt and the rest of the non-impacted campuses, 2900

Of course, this all changes a little every year based on the applicant pool and campus popularity. For example, Sac and MB declared themselves impacted a couple of years ago .

For direct admit nursing at CSU Fullerton and SDSU, you need a minimum EI of 4500. Also there were several applicants with EI’s above 4100 that were rejected last year at SDSU for Psych and Biology.

Would the SAT # you use to find your eligibility be the superscored number?

CSU’s do superscore the SAT so you use the highest SAT Math and ERBW and plug it into the calculation for the Eligibility index.

(CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + EBRW)= EI.

As stated above, SJSU uses a Modified EI for Engineering majors and CSULB will use a Modified EI for STEM Majors.

None of the EI’s listed are absolutes. For instance, SDSU had several applicants with EI’s of 4100+ last year which were waitlisted or rejected. For SDSU Nursing and CSU Fullerton Nursing, you are looking at an EI of 4500.

SJSU is the only CSU that lists their EI cutoffs each year.
