Review the information below to see how we calculated your estimated financial need.

Remaining Need

7.220,00

So I have to take over 5 thousand in loans + pay the remaining need of 7220????
that doesnt seem right to me...or I dont know...is this a good aid or now? :/
My EFC is 0
and also...is cal grant already included here?

I am not 100% sure what the Cal Grant is, so I can’t speak on that.

But Cal State Fullerton doesn’t meet 100% of need, so that is why you are left with the remaining 7.2k on top of the loans and grants the school gave you.

Yes…the Cal Grant is there. The state grant is the Cal Grant.

What is the COA breakdown? There’s fluff there.

You’re getting over $11k in free money. There is an assumption that most of your other costs (room, board, personal, etc) are really the child/family’s responsibility thru loans, work-study, summer job earnings, etc.

You need to call and find out why you weren’t given work study?

How much can you earn during the summer? And how much can you earn during the school year if you don’t get W-S?

Ill try giving them a call
I thought cal state Fullerton would give me a better financial aid package than UC Riverside:
Cost of Attendance $32,226
Gift Aid - $24,814
My Net Cost $7,412
and they´re giving me work study + the loans to pay off te remaining need.
but I dont know
I guess Ill have to call and ask csuf why I didnt offer me work study.
And Im not really sure how much I could earn
but I would be working part time :S

Yes…the UCs tend to give better aid than the CSUs.

Why not go to UCR?

Im still debating on which school I should go to…
but the thing that pushes me more to choose csuf over riverside right now is
that I would be living on campus in UCR and I dont think I can afford the first housing deposit ( I heard I would have to pay it out of my own pocket )

@mom2collegekids Do you knwo if there´s a way that the first deposit be covered?
also, I had thought I would end up paying about 5 thousand a year ( thats what a friend of mine paid for csu long beach) for books and stuff
PLUS maybe 5 thousand for housing ( IF I decided to dorm…though I could probably stay with relatives) I never imagined it would cost over 20,000 :S

COA of $24,240 is the official number, that does not mean it will actually cost you that much. Do you live in Orange County? Would you be commuting to CSUF? Add up your potential expenses if you were to live on campus in each place and see which is a better deal. Be sure to calculate rent costs for living off campus in an apartment versus on campus housing as often you can save a lot living off campus

But… do see whether freshman are allowed to live in an apartment off-campus before considering that option.

UCR sounds like a better deal. Usually F.A. can be applied to housing – check with them. With the $5500 in Stafford loans, your UCR package is just $1912 short of the full COA, which, as somemom pointed out is often larger than you really need to spend. I’d try really hard to make UCR work – it is a much better financial arrangement than the Cal State package, and is likely to continue to be a better deal even after freshman year.
