I was wondering what school would be best for marine biology? Cal State Monterey Bay or UC Santa Cruz? I know they are both good for marine biology and overall Santa Cruz is a better school but for this specialization what do you think? I’m going to be going to Monterey for at least my first two years but was thinking of transferring to Santa Cruz, is it worth it?
If you already know that you’re going to CSUMB for the first two years, try not to worry about what you don’t know. You’ll have a year and a half (applications are due during your first semester of sophomore year) to fully explore and investigate the Marine Bio strengths and weaknesses of both programs.
If you are not sure which school to go to, then in addition to the financial aspects, be sure to find out how difficult it will be to transfer from a CSU to a UC. It used to be fairly simple for UCSC, but they have become much more competitive in recent years and may give transfer preference to the Cabrillo (or other) CC students. Ask if you are eligible do a TAG from CSUMB.
I agree - commit to the school and the program. If you aren’t satisfied with the quality of instruction, look into your options.
It is difficult to transfer from a CSU to a UC - if you know you don’t want to graduate from CSUMB, you’d be better served at your local CC and then TAGing to UCSC.
