Cal state or private school?

Should i go to a cal state or a private school in California instead?
I have a 2.9 GPA and a 1300 SAT

I want a college where I can get excellent grades. I want to go to medical school preferably UCLA.

Which provide a better education? Cal States or private schools in California?
I applied to Cal state long beach, san diego, san luis obispo, and san francisco

Which private schools are a good match for me and are in California?

bump…

Is your 1300 SAT CR+M or CR+M+W?

Which private schools are you talking about?

Will your parents pay for wherever you go? If not, it’s not a good idea to borrow much for undergrad if you want to go to med school.

You have a 2.9 GPA…do you realize that you’re going to need a MUCH higher GPA to get into med school?

the 1300 is from cr,m,w
i know that i need a higher gpa but i really messed up my freshman and sophomore year
i have straight As from my junior year and i expect straight As this semester too

Private schools that are matches for me
Also, I am from a low income family

if you are from a low income family it’s not a great idea to go to grad school (usually over $40000). There’s a lot of good cal state schools that can offer great undergrad education. But if you are looking to go to med school, then i would go to one of UC schools. They also give great financial aids.

I don’t know of any private schools that would accept your stats and give you full need.

I think you need to go to a Cal State and do your best.

With those stats most if not all UCs will be out of reach I think. Go to a Cal State or start at Comm College and do a guaranteed transfer to a UC.

matt2013, are these the only Cal States you applied to? With your grades and test scores, San Luis Obispo and San Diego are highly unlikely, especially if you don’t live in their local areas. I’m not sure about Long Beach and San Francisco. What is your Cal State GPA?

You should also look at the local community college and find out what kinds of programs they have for transferring to UCs and Cal States.
