KoreanBoi, that is very true. It is also true for the engineering program. I live in the SLO area and I know several students at the top of their class trying to get into the engineering program at Cal Poly SLO, but didn't get in. I'm talking ranked #1 to #5, great ECs, and 4's/5's on AP tests, and still not accepted.

colleges almost never post their accept rates. they do fluctuate to some extent of course but that's not the entire reason as they encourage more and not fewer applicants. SLO engineering is outstanding, a tad better than pomona, and more selective as well.

SLO accepted 34 transfers out of 405 transfer applicants. It's actually higher than last year.

still 34 out of 405 is around 8% acceptance rate, which is pretty low. Excuse my question but I need some clarification. Why Cal Poly Pomona is considered to be easy to get in ? Arch acceptance rate is 5.8% which is highly selective. I'm thinking that maybe other majors are easy to get in ? or maybe for students who live close to Pomona is easy to get in?

Pretty much, all the majors except nursing(i think) and architecture are competitive at Pomona.

thanks KoreanBoi92, why Pomona has a reputation of being an easy-to-get-in college? it seems to me that is not easy to get in. The student stats need to be a lot of more higher than those for CSU.

It depends on the major, same with other colleges. Take Cornell for example, the College of Arts and Sciences is more competitive than the rest of the colleges. UCB Natural Resources major is a lot less competitive.

Somebody followed the wrong link.

Pomona College

College Search - Pomona College - Admission

is not the same college as California State Polytechnic University: Pomona.

College Search - California State Polytechnic University: Pomona - Cal Poly Pomona - Admission

The applicant pools to the two colleges are quite different.

Thanks Columbia_Student, it makes sense. I didn't know about this, and my D college counselor didn't know either. It seems that college counselors in private HS only know about private colleges :(

Well, yeah, I'd say programs such as ag or liberal arts it won't be as competitive as say engineering.

I'm incredible, within a year, I've learned so much information about college. Sometimes I get the impression that I know more than my GC. =P.

tokenadult, exactly. Cal Poly Pomona has a 5.8% admissions rate (Arch)?? It seems to be too selective for a college that has a reputation of being easy to get in.

korenboi, I know what you mean. I learned a lot just helping my D apply to Arch programs.
Per tokenadult link - These are the stats provided for Cal Poly Pomona, which are misleading :(
Acceptance & Retention
Percent applicants admitted: 53%
Percent of students who return for sophomore year: 84%

another reason for that 5.8% is because of the down economy.=/.
It sucks, because more and more students are turning to public schools.

i am going to apply for cal poly for the fall of 2012…and i am a transfer student from a community college. The problem is that i wont be able to finish all my major requirements. Is there a chance of me getting accepted still? i wont be done with my physics sequence…:(

the data given me was that there were 65,000 applications submitted to cal poly pomona within the past year and that only 3,000 were admitted. in arch the admit rate was even tougher, about 2.5 per cent.

As to the OP’s statement, collegeboard.com does not say Cal Poly Pomona had a 17% admission rate; it instead says it is 45%: [College Search - California State Polytechnic University: Pomona - Cal Poly Pomona - Admission](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

Something is not right

CB says it has a 45% admit rate

Total undergrads: 18,727
First-time degree-seeking freshmen: 2,019

Why would it only have 2,000 frosh, but that many undergrads???

* 65,000 applications submitted to cal poly pomona within the past year and that only 3,000 were admitted*

That’s not right…they admit more than that…especially if they’re enrolling more than 2k frosh. And, I think that enrollment number is off somehow as well.

This is disturbing…
…frosh…soph…jr…sr
Full-Time…3,260…2,396…3,681…6,597
Part-Time…215…180…647…1,730

The fact that this school has soooo many seniors means that it often takes a 5th year to finish…many 5th year seniors.

23,400 applied

10,500 accepted

this is for frosh…

from the common data set

45 per cent admit rate is nowhere close to reality, probably at majority of CSUs by now. the economy has turned this old data into useless. yes, roughly 3,000 freshmen inbound due to state budget cuts, similar again to most CSUs.

large senior classes, again correct due to fifth and sixth and even seventh year seniors again systemwide. why? not getting classes is a lame excuse. there is considerable evidence that many students choose not to graduate because they cannot find jobs, so they hang around and try to double major, etc. now most CSU campuses have programs to force these “super seniors” out the door.
