Cal State Poly Pomona chance please

I know its almost pointless to ask for my chances for this school but I've been really worried lately.

Cumulative weighted grade 10-11 - 3.4

SAT Score - 1560
- Math 620
- Writing 420

I'm planning on majoring in mechanical engineering at this school due to its great engineering program there. Comparing my grades to the ones on college websites, I meet most of the requirements barely, getting the 3.4 average GPA and 1560 SAT, but I really want to know, is that really enough to get accepted?

I take all honors and AP classes, 1 my sophomore year, 2 and junior year, but with 4 weighted classes my junior year.

If you're going to answer, please be brutally honest of what my chances are, thanks for any feedback.

Also, one issue is, my junior year I got a D in the first semester of Pre-calculus, but a B in the 2nd semester, how will this affect my chances?

Brutally honest? no chance

Don’t worry about it, your chances are excellent.

I’m getting mixed messages here, there’s a “no chance” and an excellent chance. The one question that I also had in mind tho, was that the average GPA for acceptance was 3.4, but that was probably for other majors, is my major going to be harder to be accepted at an engineering school? Thanks, again.

Mech E is an impacted major, and your chances don’t look good for engineering at any school, really. With a 620 Math SAT, are you sure engineering is the way to go for you?

Well, engineering was the only career that I had in mind that interested me. Thanks for the feedback, but what would’ve been the ideal SAT score then? Being an impacted major, would the 3.4 GPA requirement mean nothing since engineering is probably going to be even tougher.

Would you recommend transferring to CSPoly Pomona from a community college? Would that be any easy (as in if i do all the necessary classes will it be guaranteed acceptance)?

Do you live in their catchment area? That helps.

Sorry, I’m not familiar with the terms, if by "catchment area’’ you mean nearby, then yes, I can probably drive there in 15 minutes or so.

Also any information about transferring there would be greatly appreciated  thanks !

What if I apply to an impacted program?

Please review which majors are impacted at the program level and therefore, there is no distinction between local-area and non-local area applicants in the admission process. All candidates must meet regular University admission standards, and meet any additional standards required by the Departments. Be advised that you may not be processed in your alternate major listed on the application if not selected for one of these programs. Admission of transfer students will be based on GPA and other course completion criteria. Please review the impacted programs page for more information.

Wow, thanks for finding that for me, that helps a lot!

About the transfer program for CSPoly Pomona though, since my major is mechanical engineering, and its an impacted major so would that make it harder to transfer? If I met all the requirements to transfer, would that ensure a guaranteed transfer?

Also, if planning on going to a CC, will that D in Pre-calculus first semester haunt me, should i have retaken the class?

Can’t help with that . Maybe try here
