Cal State University Senior Grades

I had a question. Can my senior grades really affect my admission? My CSU GPA is 2.81 weighted, and I applied to Cal State LA, Fullerton, and Cal Poly Pomona. I finished first semester senior year with a 4.14 GPA. Will this really boost my chances?

CSU’s do not consider Senior year grades in their admissions decisions. Senior year grades however will help you keep your provisional admission if accepted. Some schools may ask for Mid-year grades to make sure you are on track to graduate and complete your a-g course requirements but that is usually after you have been accepted.

Your admission will be based on your eligibility index. (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math+CR) or (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT compx10). Your CSU GPA is based on the 10-11th grades only.

Oh I see. What are even my chances into these schools with my 2.81? I am in the local admission area for Cal Poly Pomona. ACT is 20, New SAT is 1030

So your EI is (2.81 x800) + 1030= 3278. Your EI is low for CPP even as a local applicant. You want to be in the 3700+ range for CPP and CSUF. You are fine for CSULA. Did you apply to other CSU’s?

No. Long Beach but I decided not to because it is too far from here I live.

For ACT my EI would be 762?

Not sure why your 10-11th grade GPA is low, but your Senior grades look excellent. If you are unhappy with your college choices come Spring, you may want to consider attending a local community college, make excellent grades and then transfer into a CSU of your choice since the CSU’s have articulation agreements with local CC’s. Just another option since you seem to have good potential, but just a little late for this year’s college admissions cycle.

Family problems got in the way. My CSU GPA would be a 3.06 with this year’s grades. Its pretty sad, I’m really disappointed in myself. Some of my friends actually got in with a 2.6-2.9 at Cal Poly Pomona with a 1010-1100 on their SAT, also local admission. So I have some hope. Who knows :frowning:

What is your intended major and did you select an alternate major? Did your friends receive their acceptances this year already?

Psychology as my first major, Physics as my second. Went from taking 1 AP class last year to taking 4 AP classes this year, passing all of them obviously. So thats why I’m worried because I want my high school grades to actually matter some how, you get me?

Yes I understand. Unless CPP or CSUF specifically ask for 7th semester Senior grades, there is no way to let admissions know how well you are doing this year since they will not accept additional documentation. The last resort would be if rejected to file an appeal and then submit your Senior grades.

I believe CSUF asks for my “7th semester transcript” Because it is in my To-Do List

Then if you have your grades available, I would send them in immediately. It should definitely help your chances.

They will be available when I come back from winter break, which is January 9th. Yes i will send them as soon as possible. What is the CPP and CSUF EI range for ACT?

There is no exact threshold but around an 850+ would be competitive for most majors. Again, being local usually the EI’s could be lower except for impacted majors but unfortunately both majors you have selected are impacted for both CPP and CSUF.

Yeah, sadly. Do they recalculate everyone’s CSU GPA (not including 12th grade grades) before admitting? Or is it based on what you put?

They will calculate your CSU GPA based on your self-reported grades from your application. CPP and CSUF have already sent out some acceptances this month but most will be out starting in February.

Ah Okay I see now. Yeah my friend got accepted to CPP I believe last week. Does it look better if you send in both ACT and SAT scores? Because some only send one.

The CSU’s super score so if you took more than 1 sitting of SAT or ACT, they will take the highest sections for either test. If you only took 1 sitting for each test, you should send in your highest score of the two tests. Did you report both tests on the application? If so, you need to send all scores reported.

Yeah, my SAT Super score is 1030, my ACT super score is 20. I sent in all my SAT and ACT scores
