Cal students-When is everyone attending CalSO?

I'm going on 7/2. I'm kind of worried because I need to register for my last pre-req (Media Studies 10) and don't know if it will be full. Are you guys paying the extra money to stay there the night before? I decided to go ahead and do it.

I’m doing the one here in So Cal which is June 19.

Tiberus-How do you sign up for that? I only make $500/mo, I should qualify. I’m the definition of poor.

I qualified for a Pell Grant so they let me sign up for that one.

Really? That sucks, I don’t understand how you could have gotten screwed over by FA at every institution.

What happened is that I worked full-time for the first 3 months of 2008 and when I quit my job, I was owed a decent chuck for unpaid vacation and sick time/benefits. I then started working part-time. Because of this, it looks like I make WAY more money than I do now. It is a difference of $19k vs. $7k. I have documentation, but everyone knows that these things take FOREVER to process. :-(

I’m attending the CalSo on July 2nd. I know that we can sign up for fall classes then, but do we need to bring transcripts with us?? I remember reading something about bringing them, but I can’t remember where I saw it.

Vmason-They want you to bring your unofficial transcripts so that the person helping you can see them if need be. However, our official transcripts are due on 7/15, so I think I am just going to bring them with me and walk them in.

Thanks KC Sunshine. I already had my transcripts sent, so I’ll just have to get another one.

^^I believe unofficial is fine, but double check.

going June 11th…which is next week.

I cant wait.

I’m going June 17 and remember seeing a bunch of stuff L&S students had to do beforehand . . . but the CalSO page annoys me and I won’t bother with it for a few weeks yet.

Ummmmm . . . . if you lived an hour-and-a-half / two-hour drive from the university, would you try to get overnight accommodations if they’re still available?

FeeFee-I would. The program starts at 7am!

I’m going on July 2nd. Doing the overnight thing because it’s summer and quite frankly - waking up at 7 in the morning is not my thing…

Ok, I have a question. Are accommodations provided? I am confused b/c the website is so vague. I pay $110 for what exactly? Is that just for the program or do we stay overnight as well? It asked me if I want to stay the night before for an extra $32 and I said yes, but what about the night after?

$110 is for the orientation alone- doesn’t include the overnight stay.

I actually received a deduction from Financial Aid and only had to pay $55…

Dang. So we have to find a hotel if we need to stay the night after? This isn’t going well so far. LOL!

the 110 includes room and board the day of your CalSO…it is an extra 32(i think) dollars if you want a room the night BEFORE your Calso.

So I only had to pay $55 because I’m not rooming the day of orientation?

i have no idea…i doubt it though.

i would call and ask.

Well if it’s included I might as well stay overnight. I’ll send them an email.
